About Martin

I have a PhD in Mathematics. I have 8 years of teaching experience at the nation's second largest university (in terms of on-campus students). I have taught both small classes and large lectures. I also have extensive experience with online mathematics software such as MyMathLab/MyLabsPlus. If you would like to see reviews or ratings, they are available on ratemyprofessor. Teaching evaluations are also available upon request.

I find that the best way to get students to learn is to make mathematics useful to them, personally. If you can get them excited, they will be eager to do the work. Mathematics can get a bad reputation because it's taught as a stale list of mechanical algorithms. Once you get people to understand how powerful it really is, most can't help but be interested.

My teaching experience is in Calculus I,II and III (single variate and multivariate), Trigonometry and College Algebra, all at the university level. However, students in both lower level (Algebra, Geometry) and higher level (Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Abstract Algebra, Nonlinear Dynamics, etc.) are welcome.

Additionally, I have extensive experience with physical sciences (Physics, Astronomy, etc.)

Please contact me if you'd like the services of a professional, experienced mathematics instructor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I have taken several classes in differential equations at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including, but not limited to, differential equations (undergrad), partial differential equations (undergrad), nonlinear DE (grad), PDE (grad), advanced PDE, nonlinear dynamics, advanced nonlinear dynamics, advanced math for engineers. Additionally, solving differential equations was a major part of my dissertation and a component of many classes that had DE as a prerequisite.

Linear Algebra

I have taken a few classes in linear algebra at both the undergrad and graduate levels. I have taken many graduate level classes that have used linear algebra, such as quantum mechanics and nonlinear differential equations. While my research work is not in linear algebra, specifically, we have used it as a tool in our research, and we have published the results in mathematics journals and presented them at conferences.
