About Robert

I am a recent graduate of the University of South Florida, with a Bachelors of Science in Physics and a minor in Mathematics. I am currently employed as a Systems Engineer in Orlando. I have extensive experience tutoring math, physics, and other science subjects, from elementary to college level. I believe that understanding the fundamentals of the material is the most important part of learning- and so my approach is to explain how and why things work the way they do, and then concentrate on the technical details. In both mathematics and physics, if you don't have a solid foundation, your progress will always be limited.

I've taken a large number of math courses for my degree and minor. Most physics courses apply algebra, calculus, linear algebra, and vector calculus. Anything between K-12 math and Calculus 3, Differential Equations, and Mathematical Methods in Physics, I can help you understand the material. I have also done many hours of tutoring preparing students for the SAT and ACT.

I am available to tutor in the evenings after work, and can only travel far on the weekends and every other Friday. I'm currently looking for a few driven and dedicated students who need help understanding their coursework or who want to learn beyond the material being presented in class. If you are a middle or high school student looking to begin learning more advanced coursework, or a physics student in need of help with your undergraduate studies, send me a message.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C

I took a year of Computer Science courses at the University of South Florida before changing my major to Physics. I have done programming in C and in other languages as a part of my Physics degree and in my engineering work at my current employer. I have taught others the basics of coding in C and other programming languages (C++, Java, MATLAB, shell scripting).

Differential Equations

I studied Differential Equations as part of my Mathematics Minor and my Physics Bachelors degree. I passed a dedicated Differential Equations course and a Mathematical Methods in Physics course which covered Differential Equations as they related to physics subjects. I applied this knowledge extensively throughout my physics courses. I have also tutored Differential Equations at a tutoring center in Tampa.

Guitar

I have played guitar for about eight years. I have a solid understanding of the necessary music theory and playing technique. I have played live performances both solo and as a member of a group.

Linear Algebra

I have a Bachelors of Science in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from the University of South Florida. I have passed a Linear Algebra class, used linear algebra extensively in many math and physics courses, and have tutored students in the subject before.
