Valencia College (Computer Science)
Mathematics was not always my strong suit and often brought difficult challenges with success feeling impossible. Now having faced these hurdles and coming to enjoy math, what stands out as the most helpful was the professors and classmates who taught clearly, step-by-step, and had fun with the topics. Because I didn't start out just getting math, I am all to aware of the head pounding frustration that it creates. Yet, I have also learned a thing or two about how to get past those tough moments and move forward confidently.
My experience as a tutor started with family and friends, covering multiple subjects and preparing me to be quick on my feet and prepared for any topic. To get exposure in a more professional environment, I worked at Valencia College as a student leader, guiding study groups in and out of the classroom on algebra topics, study skills and test preparation. On the recommendation of a coworker, I began tutoring individually and refining my skills to provide students with clear guidance, encouragement to build study habits that work, and prepare for even the most feared of tests. The greatest value of the tutoring process is having fun while exploring math's ins and outs.
I enjoy being a tutor due to the personal relationships that learning creates. My understanding is that by offering my tutoring services, I am making a commitment to bring the same passion you have to reach your goals and achieve success. Jacob has tutored my son 5 times and what a difference it has made. He went from a D to a B 1 month.
Great at explaining equations and how to work on all the steps.
Jacob is punctual, knowledgeable, and professional. He explained things simply and directly, in a way that made my son understand immediately. He was able to get through a large amount of material in an efficient manner.
Jacob works hard to make sure my son understands not only the concepts, but also the rationale behind the formulas and methods for solving the problems. Very helpful.
Jacob is very smart and qualified...He knew exactly what he was doing and let me learn without telling me all the answers...He was very professional as well.
And he continues to learn...
First lesson with Jacob and already my granddaughter is more confident. She says that she feels like with his help she will get ahead in Algebra and not be two steps behind. Thank you, Jacob!
Jacob is one of a kind math touter. He make sure my daughter understand what he teaches and he brought her grade up in a matter of weeks!
I highly recommend him. He's always on time
He related well to my 9th grader and
Kept her fully engaged and made sure she understood the content . The hour flew by for her and that is great when it comes to math.
We will be using him on a weekly basis now
Thank you Jacob! You're an amazing tutor! You have helped James not only to correct the F but to move up to A/B in math.
Jacob paid very close attention to the methods my son used to complete his problems, so he was able to provide very specific and helpful guidance. Great first session!
Jacob W. Was really helpful to my son with his geometry work. My son was very pleased and we will definitely request jacob to come back and help my son with finals.
Jacob taught my son to improve his already good grades. My son likes him very much. He is already using his new knowledge in the tests.
My son said he explained the math so that he could understand it. They actually worked the entire hour.
Teaches at a great pace, and makes sure that you learn everything before you move on! All around great tutor! Highly recommended!
Jacob is a super nice guy and has helped my son gain one to two letter grades on his last two math tests. Definitely recommend him!
Jacob was really nice and very willing to work with me when I didn't understand it (trigonometry). Would definitely recommend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

My experience starts with taking Calculus I & II as a student, organizing study groups to help and guide each other with difficult problems. I have used this method of working together in tutoring sessions for the past two years. My favorite topics in calculus are taking derivatives, the chain rule, and Riemann sums.
I started learning CSS along with HTML in a local library class and loved the combination of creativity and technical problem solving. I have now built professional websites and applied my know-how to tutor students for over two years. My favorite uses of CSS are styling classes and shaping div's to the needs of the website.
My first tutoring students were in high school in need of help with Geometry. Studying and reviewing the material I had learned in high school, this is now one of the subjects I have enjoyed tutoring the most over the past two years. My favorite parts of this course are right triangles, transformations, surface area and volume.

When I first began tutoring, many students were in high school and middle school in need of help with Prealgebra. The topics of this course often need review for students at any level. In over two years of tutoring, I enjoy making sense of these topics for students who felt unsure for a long time. My favorite topics in this subject are slope-intercept form, transformations, and Pythagorean Theorem.
This subject shares a lot with Algebra and is often mixed in with high school courses. I have tutored in this course for over two years as well as some work during my time at Valencia College. My favorite topics are polar coordinates and limits.
Trigonometry is my favorite subject in high school and college level mathematics. Many of the students I have tutored over the past two years, dislike the subject. What I enjoy most is simplifying the concepts for students and showing them the many capabilities. My favorite topics are trigonometric identities and vectors.
