About Holly

I am a first-year elementary school teacher who has taught under temporary contracts in kindergarten, second, and fourth grade. I am good in the classroom, but it leaves little wiggle room to focus in on working with a struggling students exact needs, or to meet the enrichment needs of an excelling student. My heart leaps when any of my students understands a new or challenging concept. I live for those moments - seeing the light bulbs go on in their heads. I really like working one-on-one or in small groups so I can get that exact strategy that makes learning fun and helps things click for each individual student. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified Elementary Education teacher. I have taught whole class and one-on-one in kindergarten, second, and fourth grade, and have volunteered one-on-one tutoring in first grade. I like to see the students having fun while they learn, because that gives them a positive attitude toward learning. So, I tend to incorporate games when teaching.

Microsoft Outlook

I have used Microsoft Outlook in almost all of my jobs. While teaching in schools and prior to, Outlook was used for most communication needs: emailing, meeting scheduling, memos, to-dos, etc. I previously worked at a bank, and as a customer service specialist in jobs that used Outlook for a variety of purposes as well.

Phonics

I am a certified Elementary school teacher with experience in kindergarten, first, second and fourth grades. Especially in the lower grades, phonics is a large part of the curriculum, and I am accustomed to many different techniques including Visual Phonics (using hand signs along with phonics) and the International phonetic alphabet.
