Bowie State University (Biology)
My name is Patricia and I tutor subjects in the Math and Sciences as well as being fluent in Spanish. I recently graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Biology. My life goal is to become a Biology Professor. I currently have five years of paid tutoring experience. I tutor mostly college level Biology and college Algebra, but I have been helping my peers with school for years. I also tutor for community service hours for my peers who do not have enough income to pay a tutor. I have hands-on Organic Chemistry research experience.
I love helping students of all ages understand material that they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to grasp. My methods vary depending on the individual I am tutoring. I use flashcards, videos, pictures, and graphs for my visual learners while applying memorization techniques, outlines, and real life examples for my auditory learners. I feel that I bring something different to the table because I can explain things in simpler ways that younger adults and children can understand. I come from a different direction than professors or teachers because I do not work professionally as an instructor nor do I have to follow a set curriculum. My tutees have told me that I am the best tutor they’ve had because of my patience, passion for teaching, and practical manner of explaining subject matter. Hiring me as a tutor and helping yourself or your child understand school in a way you never would have imagined is a decision you will never regret. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
