About Nichelle

Hello. My Name is Nichelle. I am currently taking some time off of law school to get my Masters as a graduate student at University of Miami. I have completed my B.A in English/pre-law. I am briefly going to tell you all a little bit about myself, and hope that you find me to be a match in order to help your child excel. I graduated high school a year early with a 4.0 GPA and still undergrad with a 3.92.

As a student, first I understand how it can feel not being able to comprehend a subject or not knowing who to go to for help. I want your child to be able to ask any questions they were hesitant to ask before, and my goal is to help them establish a routine to master whatever subject is giving them trouble. I am here to help so I like to give students study tips on how to study, and leave them with practice mechanisms. I have been tutoring students since my freshman year of high school and I continue to help others who attend my university.

As a tutor I have been very successful in helping students raise grade, pass test, and advance to the next level in courses. My goal is to work with both and your child so that you can have a way of helping even if you do not know the subject matter, and so that they not only make the grade but will know enough to help others.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I have played basketball my entire life from elementary school up to college. I have coached as well as been coordinator for basketball camp. I am very knowledgeable of skills required as well as rules and regulations of the game.

Bible Studies

I grew up in the church, my father is a pastor and since I have been in the church knowing the bible and teachings as well as exploring different aspects of studies has been a large focus of mine. I have taken many bible and theological classes throughout college and am very well versed in the teachings and message of the word.

Cello

I have been playing the cello since the second grade. I started off in an orchestra in Crofton Md at Crofton Meadows Elementary School. When I moved to the Eastern Shore started playing at Kent School where I was taking lessons and playing in the orchestra with the renound Michael Strauss. After my graduation from Kent I started lessons with a Washington College professor by the name of Tom Anthony. While in school I still practice daily and hope to join the orchestra at my university soon.

Elementary (K-6th)

I love working with children, and I feel as though the problems they have with certain subjects need to be tackled before they take another step. I have worked at many summer camps as well as helping out with tutoring for elementary school students as an afterschool program. As a k-6th tutor I understand they are on a different learning level so I have certain techniques to help them adjust as they start to advance in learning. I have helped in many elementary schools with reading techniques and writing techniques for younger students. I have attended seminars as well that helped give insight on how to teach this level.

General Music

I absolutely love music. I am currently taking up a minor in music while I am in school. Music has been a part of my life for a very long time. I not only play the cello but I write and sing as well. I am very good with teaching the basics as well as intermediate and advanced levels of notes tones, beats, and genres.

Public Speaking

In school I took part in teen court, as well as 4-H which both gave me fundamentals for speaking in front of crowds and how to address certain audiences. I have also had to give a number of presentations and speeches to groups and organizations for PTA as well as student representative. As a public speaking tutor I will be able to give the student techniques for how to carry their voices, how to write certain speeches geared towards a certain audience, and practice techniques.

I have had a number of public speaking classes to help me prepare for speeches for National Honors Society, National Society of high school honors, Black Student Union and Multicultural Student Association. As your students tutor my goal is to relay the information I know but change it around to best fit them. I understand that many student have trouble with speaking to groups so the end focus is helping student overcome that.

Religion

I have taken some religion courses while I have been in school. AS a religious tutor I will be able to help your student differentiate between the different aspects of different religions in numerous countries. I have been giving small study groups while I have been in college for religion classes, and have a great understanding of Christianity, Catholicism, Muslim, episcopalian, and many more. I feel as though they are all inter-tangled in a sense and as a tutor for this subject I will help your student analyze and break down each component. Studying this course I have realized that this subject can help with history subjects as well. I plan on helping each student come up with techniques that will make the subject stick and help them to make connections.

Study Skills

I believe you cannot achieve your goals and make the grade unless you review. I have many different study techniques that have helped me over the years such as note taking, looking up words i do not recognize, and reviewing each subject for ten minutes even if there is no homework in that subject.

While studying, I tell students to highlight anything they do not know, read further then come back to it if the reading still does not answer it. I have been studying technique classes for community service hours since my freshman year of college. I would be able to give your child ways to study that benefit their learning ability and style. As your students tutor, my goal is to help them get into a rhythm that will help them throughout the rest of school when preparing for test and quizzes.
