I have a passion for writing, reading and helping children reach their potential. currently, I am a teaching assistant. Prior to this position, I sold books to school libraries for 16 years. During that time, I created library collections ranging in age from Preschool through Professional development all over the state of Florida. I represented over 100 publishers and my product line was huge. I have a real understanding of what a child likes to read. I am a published writer and have a children's book coming out in the fall of 2017. I have also written many other books that will be emerging in the near future. I am fun loving and very creative and it would be an honor to help any student with areas they may need help.
I co-created a motivational teen program, which allowed me to public speak to hundreds of teens, librarians, and teachers throughout Florida. I proofread and edited many college papers for various students. I have hosted and planned 6 best-selling author events at various schools in Clay and St. Johns County. I also spoke to groups of librarians 4 different times about trends in reading and how to engage their students to read. Writing is my passion and I would love to instill that in other children.
Please know I love to help others and know I can motivate any child that comes into my presence. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree from the University of Kansas in Communications. The majority of my course work entailed classes on public speaking, analyzing speeches, writing and giving speeches in front of my classmates. Most people get nervous public speaking, but I thrive when speaking to a crowd of people and enjoy it immensely. I have had the opportunity throughout my career to speak small groups, as well as, large groups. I have yet to tutor someone in this area, but know I will be able to use my background and experience to help any student excel in this subject.
