Coming from a long line of teachers, I began working with other students while still in school myself. After many years of teaching and tutoring in both public and private schools, I am now spending my time working with those struggling to make their way through.
For many years I have been a certified teacher covering grades K-9 with an ESOL endorsement. It has been my goal to approach each student as an individual with individual strengths and weaknesses. Learning what makes each student excited about learning and what their goals are makes working with each child an exciting journey. Discovering whether your young student learns best through hearing, seeing, or doing is a priority for me which gives me many options of the teaching techniques available.
My standards are high and I expect my students best effort on every occasion. Feedback from you and your student are critical to having a good working relationship with you both. While I work to be as flexible as possible, I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Make-up sessions will be held as available.
Whether in your home, mine or a library or other mutually agreed upon location, I look forward to working with you and your child and seeing their possibilities grow with each lesson.
Oral and written communications are critical to our ability to succeed in life. I have taught English, Reading and Grammar in schools for many years with an high non-English speaking population. Having many students come back to me and thank me for being such a stickler for proper English has been gratifying. How you speak and present yourself to a prospective employer can make all the difference in the world to their future careers.
I've been an ardent student of the Bible myself all of my life and have spent many hours in classes and seminars learning of it's history, it's poetry and it's influence on the lives of it's followers.
Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any service to your or your young student. Their success is my top priority and I would consider it an honor to be a part of that success! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a certified teacher I have had many students with varying disabilities in my classroom. I received integrated instruction classes through the school boards I was working for. For 1 year I co-taught a 2nd grade class that included a self contained teacher and her 7 students with various disabilities from emotional, autistic, non-verbal, and ADHD. Due to lack of classroom space, the self-contained class was moved in with my regular 2nd grade, which included an autistic student and their class was given to a new 5th grade class. This was a learning experience for us all in all the best ways.
I have been studying the Bible with my family and while attending services at the Church of Christ for 58 years. I also attended Harding University where Bible classes are mandatory every semester. I've been teaching or participating in Bible classes at our local church for 48 years, teaching everyone from birth to Senior Ladies classes. I will be more than happy to take a subject area exam on the Bible any day.
I was a certified Elementary teacher until this past June 30th when my certificate expired. Certification Number 942318. My endorsements included: Elementary (Grades K - 6); English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL); and Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (Grades 5 - 9)
