About Daniel

I am originally from Ocala, and I have spent most of my life here. I did leave for awhile to pursue my history degree at the University of Florida where I graduated cum laude and then my Masters in Education at the University of Florida. When I graduated, I moved back to Ocala, and I taught at Forest High School for three years. I thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching, but I thought I wanted to try something different, so I enrolled in law school in Miami (then at FSU College of Law). At law school, I was on the Dean's List every semester, was ranked seventh in my class, and graduated magna cum laude. After law school, I moved back to Florida where I am now working for kids as a lawyer for the government. I really like my new job, but I still love the idea of teaching. So I decided to become a tutor so I would still be able to do some teaching part-time.

Although I am grateful for the academic accolades I have achieved, the honest truth is that an effective teacher has little to do with "smarts" and everything to do with two concepts: the ability to effectively communicate and the understanding how to instill a love for learning. As a teacher and then a lawyer, my job has always been to be able to communicate complex concepts and stories in a simplistic way to my audience, and I enjoy doing it. I also have an energetic personality that conveys the excitement of learning. Getting a kid to love learning is possibly the most important goal of teaching. If a child learns to love learning, he or she will become a lifelong learner, and being a lifelong learner will pay dividends far beyond the twelfth grade.

I am a licensed attorney. My job requires submitting well-written and proofread papers to court on almost a nearly daily basis. At my law school, I was on the Law Review (the highest academic journal in law school), and I have previously tutored in grammar/essay writing.

My undergraduate degree is in history. My master in education degree is in social studies education, and I taught World History and Contemporary History for three years at Forest High School.

I really enjoy helping convey the stories of history, and helping kids and young adults learn how to improve their writing, especially with essays. I hope to hear from you soon to see if we are able to start tutoring!
