Welcome to my world of learning. I have an Associate in Arts degree in Education. I enjoy the search for information and details about our world, our nation and our community. In my pursuit for learning, I observe, investigate, communicate and reflect on ways to improve myself and those around me.
I enjoy working with adults and children as they explore their potential in learning about themselves and their world. I have experience in Early Childhood classrooms, in nonprofit literacy organizations and in community literacy programs.
I enjoy nature, gardening, sewing, embroidery, quilting and reading. I have recently incorporated some photography in my world of nature and quilting. I have basic computer skills and I am exploring the digital world.
As a tutor for you or your child, I would express an interest in needs and learning goals. I would incorporate lesson objectives in details to assist in ways to include specific learning styles and personalities. I would provide study advice, examples of study helps and resources in specific areas of learning.
I prefer to study at the public library. The library has resources and a neutral place to reduce distractions, and I have found it helps to build discipline and focus. I encourage reading, writing, listening, repetition and practice. As your tutor I would encourage your efforts with honesty and examples of goals to work towards.

Edna is very patient and knowledgeable. Her teaching style is very easy which is very helpful for my son to get a genuine interest in learning and he looks forward for the lessons.

I liked this lesson, Edna really trying to help. She giving a home work, and checked it before a next lesson. Edna explained to me some grammar rules. I will be recommended Edna as e English tutor.

She has been helping my son with handwriting and has provided some great tips. They are also working on spelling and so far he thinks it's fun.
We've only had one visit so far but Ms. Edna seems very observant of my son. She gave me honest feedback. I believe they are going to be a good fit. She was very patient and knowledgeable. He definitely needs that.

I have been a member of Church of God since 1971. I have been involved in teaching Sunday school classes to children and adults. I have received a Sunday School Teacher of the Year Award.
I only profess my knowledge in the reading and studying of the Bible.
I am a life time member of the Cooking Light Club. I have completed required college level classes for nutrition. I have completed staff training on nutritional requirements for Early Childhood Education and childcare skills.
I am familiar with cooking terms, health and safety handling and cooking of meats, fruits and vegetables. I have experience in accurate measurement and appropriate completion of menu planning and recipes.
I have knowledge of measurements and serving portions for infant, child and adults servings.
I have experience in home school and family child care settings in the preparation and service of meals and snacks for preschool children.
I have completed student teaching internship in the elementary classroom setting. I have completed 6 assignments as substitute teacher for grades K thru 5.
I have beginning knowledge of the Common Core Standards for grades K through 12. I prepare Early Childhood lessons based on assessment of student needs for school readiness skills. I provide active engagement with the subject matter for the student needs.
In 2005 through 2007 I assisted applicants for GED testing as a VISTA volunteer at a nonprofit family literacy center in Tennessee. Areas included math and english.
I have completed staff training in preschool literacy skills. I have specific handwriting skills observed and practiced based on the handwriting program by Dawn Coquillard, OTR/L. I encouraged specific lessons during Head Start classroom instruction and recognition of letters for the school readiness skills.
I have experience with crochet, embroidery, quilting and basic machine sewing. I have attended classes, read instructional books and researched various methods of skills mentioned above. I have participated in sewing circles, I have crocheted doilies, baby quilts and hats.
I have experience in the academic environment for communication of educational information and resources. I encourage open discussion of questions, ideas, and active participation in the role of a speaker.
Past experiences include non profit presentations to community groups for fundraising events, classroom teaching of children and adults. I have been a club secretary in a college educational organization, Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA), as such I was responsible for the gathering of meeting notes and the written and verbal distribution of those minutes. I am able to assist student in community speaking.
In 2006 through 2007, I completed service in the Americorp VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Program at a non-profit Literacy Center for Adults and Families. My experience included adult tutoring of reading and math skills for TABE testing and GED preparation.
I have personal experience in hand and machine sewing. Since my early youth and participation in Girl Scouts, I have demonstrated skills in embroidery, crocheting and general mending and sewing activities. I volunteer for charity organizations to make or repair items, such as quilts and scarves, or household furnishings.
I demonstrate methods of studying to enhance adult student focus and attention to key concepts and details in academics. I promote note taking, proper review of study materials, and practice sessions. I observe and assess the individual learning styles of the student: auditory, visual or kinesthetic. I encourage the student to have a study plan and study breaks. I encourage questions and provide different approaches to find the answers. I believe positive feedback is key for successful learning.
I have been involved in writing essays, compositions and speeches at the college level. As an Early Childhood Educator, I have written class stories, newsletters and monthly reports to encourage parents and staff in areas of communication and knowledge. I clarify class presentations through visual and academic explanations to enrich student content using resources and the written word.
