My success in and love for teaching comes from my personal love for education and my curiosity about all that is around me. As a Ph.D. graduate from the prestigious Walden University and founder of several very successful institutions, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can yield great rewards. All my students have gone on to great successes in life ranging from engineers to medical doctors. Some of my students have placed in the top 1% in the nation on tests like SATs and GREs. Without a doubt teaching has been one of the most rewarding careers of my life.
The reason why my students experience such great success is because I help students learn how to explore, discover, analyze and learn (not just memorize information) and have lots of fun doing it. I launch student learning from the platform of curiosity and develop lessons and learning strategies from that starting point. I build individually tailored lessons around mutually developed learning goals and objectives that will meet both the student's academic needs while simultaneously satisfying their curiosities about life.
I specialize in philosophy, psychology, sociology, writing, English, social studies and more. I hold myself to high standards and I expect the same from my students. But with that said by holding this mutual understanding and practice, I pledge that I will help my students reach their academic and life goals and potentials.
While I am open and flexible in many ways, I do expect a 24 hour notice if you need to cancel a scheduled tutoring session. And for those sessions I can come to your home or we can find a mutually suitable place to study.
I look forward to hearing from you so I can help you succeed in your studies and in life! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a former licensed LCPC and was the clinical director of the largest behavioral health agency in the State of Maine during my tenure. I supervised and was clinically responsible for more than 70,000 clinical treatment hours per year at this agency. 85% of the case load was children with ADD/ADHD or similar developmental or behavioral disorders. I also have a Ph.D. in Human Services/Counseling Psychology.
I have taught over 200 individual families using a 10-week Bible study course in their individual homes. I authored over 2000 pages of Bible theology studies (9 Books) with over 300,000 of these books currently in circulation. I attended three different Bible colleges finishing with a Bachelors degree in Theology. I currently teach Bible courses (theology) at the college level (all degree levels) to mostly active ministers (clerics) from various denominations.
I began playing chess in Junior High, joined a chess club and played peers and adults and usually won any opponents (both peers and adults). I still play, chess and I teach children to play too. I play against computer programs and do quite well. Depending on the program, I can always win medium level and even higher skilled levels. I still believe that chess helps develop healthy analytic neuronal pathways in the brain.
Not only have I made it all the way through college taking college math, statistics, algebra, geometry, etc., but I have taught children in math and worked professionally in jobs that required complex math skills, e.g., I worked for several laboratories and in mechanical engineering jobs.
I have many, many years of personal handwriting experience, both printing and cursive styles. My handwriting skills have served me well as a student during both my secondary and postsecondary education and also as a teacher, e.g., completing lessons, preparing lessons, and reading lessons submitted by my students. Despite computerization handwriting is still a very vital skill that is still used in the real world, both in the production of handwritten documents and in the reading and deciphering of handwritten documents produced by others.
I began public speaking when I was just fifteen (15) years of age and have not stopped since. I have done public speaking in front of small groups all the way up to large (up to 3000 attendees). Some of my public speaking was done at parishes and other similar gatherings and the crowds kept coming back for more and grew in size. This fact alone speaks for itself. Finally, my on-ground students always gave me excellent reviews (anonymous) regarding my lectures.
I taught religious studies for more than eight (8) years at the college level and taught it at parishes for nearly twenty (20) years. I have written 9 religious books with three (3) others nearing completion. I also have a Bachelors degree in Theology and religious studies is a major part of the curriculum.
My major for my undergraduate studies at Norwich University was sociology and I completed ten (10) doctoral credits focused on society and social change. I also taught sociology (cultural diversity) at the college level and received excellent feedback regarding my courses and lectures. I am also a social change agent and have facilitated a number of social changes that gained letters of recommendations from two n/f U.S. Senators, among other notable. Some of my acts of social change included the development of community institutions/organizations that remain as landmarks to this day.
