I know - firsthand - the transforming power that a truly inspiring, fun-loving, creative teacher or tutor can have on a wandering mind.

Early on, I had a behavioral problem. I was bored.

With the specialized help I received from caring teachers and tutors, I went on to become the first in my coal mining family to go to college. I ended up at Harvard, Early Admission, NROTC.

One of the ways that my teachers, parents, and tutors channeled my boredom led to my greatest love: tutoring and teaching others. Starting in kindergarten, you could find me tutoring my peers (and older students) in subjects I had already mastered. On the school bus, on the playground, on the walk home from school ... I learned to make others' struggles my singular challenge: how to make the subject matter come alive, in a personally relevant way for each student?

All the way through secondary school, college, and into my career (business development, marketing, communications, and grant / proposal writing), I have continued to teach, tutor, mentor, and instruct others. The reward of seeing someone grasp a new concept, or re-think their opinion of the entire learning process, or overcome a learning impediment ... never gets old.

If you are a parent of a child with special needs - either struggling to succeed in a subject, or bored from lack of challenge in the classroom - I promise: you'll be thrilled with the result of my sessions.

If you are a student yourself, and you need help to get through a subject, let me be your guide. Your entire outlook will change by the time we're done.

Thank you for your consideration. I know that my proven, patient, and practical approach will change the way you learn, and will truly transform the way you feel about the challenges you're facing right now.

I look forward to working with you to achieve a whole new level of success!

Sincerely,

- David

Elementary (K-6th)

The foundation a child receives in the critical K-6 years provides a springboard to a lifetime love of learning. Understanding the core concepts in the major areas - reading, math, science, and the arts - equips a child to confidently move forward in life, while retaining their initial sense of wonder. I love working with this age group, making learning exciting, engaging, and enjoyable. For students with special needs or unorthodox learning styles, I am able to custom-tailor my approach to make the material come alive for them. Parents are thrilled to see their child beginning to take a greater interest in school, and beginning to thrive. Students appreciate that I "get" how school can be a scary place socially, especially when they are struggling with a concept that their peers seem to grasp readily.

MCAT

I have extensive experience helping prospective medical school students prepare successfully for the MCAT, including for admission to such institutions as Harvard Medical School. I am well-versed in all four of the subject areas: * Physical Sciences: Besides being selected for The American Academy of Achievement (where luminaries such as Nobel Prize winners in Physics and Chemistry gather), I have proven test-taking tactics for helping med school students apply what they've learned to box in the correct answer for the "hard science" questions. * Verbal Reasoning: I especially shine at helping "math and science oriented" students improve their scores in the verbal reasoning section of the MCAT. Often, it is the case that students bound for med school have a strong handle on the concrete knowledge underpinning their field (e.g., Organic Chemistry); but these selfsame students often struggle with the vital communication skills necessary to achieve the highest levels of success in medical school. These students routinely praise my subject-matter-based exercises to help them grasp verbal reasoning nuances directly related to their field. * Biological Sciences: Besides studying directly under Professor E.O. Wilson - the foremost authority on Evolutionary Biology - I have extensive experience helping medical school students identify the most commonly tested points of knowledge related to Organic Chemistry and the other biological science topics covered on the MCAT. I am confident that any prospective medical school student seeking one-on-one test prep for the MCAT will greatly value the ground-up approach I take to helping them prepare for this very high stakes test.

David is amazing! He has helped my son prepare for success on the ASVAB.

I would strongly recommend David across the board and in particular to those preparing to take the ASVAB. David thoroughly enjoys his work and it shows. He follows up and encourages students to enjoy the journey as they prepare for the exam. I am a professional educator myself and I have been so impressed with David and how he has helped my son not only improve his test score but also increase his self-confidence tremendously. David also feels strongly about his commitment to assist those who are in the process of enlisting to serve our nation and it shows in every lesson, follow-up phone call, email, and text. As a parent, I was also so grateful for David's professionalism and the time he took to keep me abreast of my son's progress and challenges.

Detailed and thorough

Very thorough and observant. We were very happy with David and his attention to detail. He takes time to decide where the strengths and weaknesses are and then focused on strengthening the weaknesses.

Off To A Good Start

We were looking for a tutor to help our junior high school son to improve his reading/writing/study skills, prepare for college, and apply some of that in his daily life. He and David are off to a good start.

Charismatic with teens!!

David, with his charisma and guidance, helped tremendously in working on my son's lack of confidence. The latter has improved not only in getting a jump of more than 100 points in his SAT (turning Stretch Schools into Safety Schools), but also in the way he communicates with peers and teachers, feeling more confident in all the areas.

David has been a godsend!

My son never liked working with tutors until he met David. David is very patient and puts a person at ease. My son could relate to him which made studying more enticing. I have seen substantial improvement in my son's productivity not only in his school work, but in his SAT scores. After studying with David, in preparation for the SAT, my son saw an increase of 120 points on his score. I could not be more pleased with David and not only consider him my son's tutor, but a friend.

Indispensable!

David has worked diligently and patiently to help our daughter recover from the many weeks of school she missed due to mono. He is a very holistic tutor, kind and caring, and works hard to bring scholastic subjects to life. He proved dependably encouraging and helped us all feel that the huge task of catching up could be accomplished. Our daughter would not have been able to continue the semester at her school without David's support. Thank you, David! 4/29/13- It has been 13 months now since we began working with David S of WyzAnt. He has become one of our daughter's greatest supporters and a significant, positive influence on her as she recovered from a multi-month illness and the ensuing academic fallout. David has seen her through the college application process and helped boost her morale and confidence, tailoring his tutoring methods to her particular learning style and making studying less onerous and tedious through her challenging catch up and keep up work. Our family has found David to be a tremendous resource; he is a natural, genuine, empathetic person who also happens to be a brilliant, gifted tutor. David doesn't see mistakes, only steps to success, and he has kept our daughter on track through various health and academic ups and downs during the past year. We feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with David and give him our highest recommendation.

Great Progress

I am very pleased with the progress my son (in grade K) has made in just a few sessions with David. He was too scared to try reading and now is excited to try reading anything he sees. David really knows how to get through to the younger kids.

Outstanding Tutor!

David is knowledgeable across the subject board. He is patient, organized and always accessible to our son, daughter and ourselves. His enthusiasm for teaching and learning is contagious. He builds confidence and success. He is also well versed in teaching to different learning styles for those with learning differences. We highly recommend him!

The Best Tutor Ever!

I would recommend David to anyone who struggles with or fears writing. David has helped me work through my thesis, which was not an easy task. He has the capability to peel your difficulties like a onion and help you build as a better writer. Each time we met, he knew what stressed me out and what I was comfortable with. In turn, it gave him ideas of how to help me face my biggest fears. Overall, David does not make you feel judged when working with him but as an equal.
