Pepperdine University (Elementary Education)
Graduating from Pepperdine University I received a BA degree in Elementary Education and also California State Certification for teaching Grades K-8th which I maintained until 2008 when I decided not to return to California to live. Additional education was received at Western Baptist Bible College where a BS and Bachelor of Religious Education degree were earned in Christian Education and Missions. After graduation I taught second grade in a public school in Los Angeles for three years receiving experience and expertise. T then studied Spanish in Mexico for a year before going to Santiago, Chile to teach in a school for the children of missionaries where I continued to teach first and second grades for almost forty years. I had the opportunity to work with many children with varying abilities and also many international students who taught me about many different cultures. I also taught English as a Second Language to young people and adults. I know that all children are different and have different learning styles requiring different approaches in teaching. I enjoy teaching using many hands on activities. I believe phonics is very important to learning reading and becoming a confident reader. I believe I am a patient teacher and seek to instill self confidence in my students. All of the students that I have tutored have improved their grades in school while I was tutoring them.

I would like to highly recommend Sharon R. as a Spanish tutor. Her teaching methods and the textbooks she uses are superb. I studied Spanish on my own for approximately 6 months using several on-line computer programs and other textbooks. I was becoming frustrated trying to put it all together. Since Sharon R. began working with me, everything is now falling into place and I am seeing a dramatic improvement in my oral, reading and writing skills. If you are seriously interested in becoming proficient in Spanish, I definitely recommend Sharon R.
Mrs Sharon is excellent teacher, I son loves the way she's explaining things and make everything easier for him.
Amazing teacher. Very patient. My child is never bored and fully engaged in lessons. Makes learning fun and entertaining. Very experienced.
Our experience has been very positive with Sharon R. She is very patient, works well with my son, makes it fun for him and he looks forward to her arrival every week! She has taught him many strategies to help him succeed in his problem areas. Overall wonderful to work with. Would RECOMMEND to anyone!!!
Does a very good job, very patient. My grandson really likes her and says she helps him a lot.
Sharon has been a great help in raising my son's reading ability. She is always pleasant and timely. I would refer her to anybody needing help with my highest endorsement.
Sharon was fast to respond to my ad and was very friendly. She was well prepared with materials to assist my daughter in some Fcat extra practice.
She was very accommodating with my times and even fit me in last minute. Thanks Sharon.
My partner and I have been taking Spanish lessons from Sharon on a weekly basis for the past eight months. She is not only reliable, patient and thoroughly professional, but has lived abroad in Chile and Mexico for many years and brings personal andedotes and real life experiences to her teaching sessions. We can't thank Sharon enough for her invaluable teaching experience as we face the challenges of learning a new languge.
I believed that I would only be able to complete Spanish 2 successfully with the help of a tutor outside of class. Sharon proved to be a wonderful help! And I completed the course with an A. Thank you WyzAnt and thank you Sharon!
We found Sharon to be a very good teacher of Spanish with much quality and experience considering she lived in Chile for 38 years. She was easy to entreat and planned good lessons with lots of challenges. She also tailored our lessons to our goals and needs.
Ms. Sharon is excellent with my daughter; she uses practical teaching methods that are easy for my 7 year old to understand and is extremely patient. I highly recommend!!!
Today was our first tutoring lesson and I feel Sharon is a very patient, caring teacher that puts her student at ease. She motivated my grandson to want to read after she left, which was a surprise coming from Joseph. She has an excellent background in education and I believe she can make a difference in Joseph’s reading. I look forward to her tutoring my grandson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a teacher and have taught elementary school for over 40 years. I have taught all of the academic subjects at different levels. I approach reading with phonics and try to stimulate reading comprehension. Reading is the most important thing a student should learn. It is needed for all other academic areas. I approach math with a hands on learning so the student not only knows how to do the math but also why he/she is doing it. I stress learning the math facts thoroughly using flashcards and other aids. I try to develop a report between the student and myself so the student will want to learn and enjoy doing it.
I have taught elementary math in all grades and feel that I am able to help the student understand the principles of math as well as learning the math combinations and other skills needed to be successful in math. I believe it is very important to learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts thoroughly in order to be able to perform these operations quickly and accurately. I also use many forms of hands on materials to make understanding of concepts easier.
I am a teacher and I lived in Santiago, Chile for 38 years. While there I taught English to Chilean students in our Bible Institute and also had ESOL classes in my church with students at different levels of English learning. We spoke as much English as possible and tried to make the class as fun as possible, playing games and using role playing and story telling as a means of speaking English.
I am an elementary teacher and have taught mathematics for 38 years, specifically in the primary grades, but I am qualified to teach all elementary mathematics. I believe in hands on teaching and enjoy finding games and fun ways to teach math. I am presently working with several students who have improved their math grades as a result of my teaching.
I have also worked with my own two daughters as they studied math at all of the elementary and high school levels. At present I will be working with a college student with college level mathematics. I have worked extensively with A Beka math and Saxon Math in the school where I taught. I believe it is important not only to memorize things in math but also to understand what it is you're memorizing, and how it works.
I am an elementary school teacher with more than 40 years of teaching experience. I have mainly taught primary grades in reading and phonics and this has involved teaching phonics, which I believe to be a very important part of learning to read. I enjoy teaching phonics and feel it can open a wide range of vocabulary for young readers.
My reading instruction is based on phonics. I feel it is important to learn phonics in order to be able to sound out any word you may encounter in your reading. I also believe comprehension is important and use many activities to develop comprehension in the reading of my students. I believe reading is one of the most important skills a person can develop because this is necessary for learning all other subject matter. I have taught elementary reading for over 40 years and have seen my student become confident readers.
I am a teacher and lived in Santiago, Chile for 38 years teaching in an American school for the children of missionaries. I am fluent in Spanish and am actively teaching several students in Spanish at the present time. I am able to teach not only the language, but also the culture of Latin American countries. I have a good number of resources that I use. My students are doing well at learning Spanish.
