About Kim

My name is Kimberly M. and I live in North Port, Fl. I have 10 years of tutoring experience and 8 years of running my own private tutoring business. My undergraduate degree is in Early Childhood Education. My master's degree is in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education. I have taught in the public school system for 15 years in various subjects. I am certified in the state of Fl. in the following areas: Reading Endorsement, Special Education K-12, Middle School grades 5-9. (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) I have experience teaching in all grades K-12.
I will arrive on time for sessions. I am friendly, caring, and can easily create a professional relationship with students or their parents. I am very knowledgeable about many areas in education or subject areas. I can collaborate with others to plan sessions. I can plan lessons based on the student's needs. I am an organized person who will be able to have enough time in a session to cover based on a student's needs. I am dedicated to my career in education whether I teach regular or special education. I set goals and work to achieve them. I have excellent characteristics in my professional ethics. I also give positive praise to try to build students' self esteem. I find their strengths and weaknesses and build from that to ensure student success.

I have been reading since I was 3 years old. I have extensive experience in tutoring or teaching Reading, Language Arts, and English. I know how to teach students to build from one sentence to a 5 paragraph essay depending on their grade level. I can teach writing in the following areas: Descriptive, Narrative, Persuasive, Informational, Expository, Creative or Free-writing and Journal Writing.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have classroom experience and tutoring with teaching students with Attention Deficit Disorder and students with Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity. Even though it is not a category in Special Education, many students in special education have this medical issue.
I know strategies and methods that could aid in a student reaching success. I have a Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education, Middle School Integrated, and Special Education Grades K-12.

Common Core

I have been trained with Professional Development Classes in St. Johns County, Fl and Charleston County School District in South Carolina. I also have used Common Core Standards while preparing lessons for teaching in both SC and FL. Currently, I live in Florida again and Florida has made their own Common Core Standards to align with the State Testing known as FSA replacing FCAT. I am currently following Florida Common Core for Fl State Assessments this spring 2016.

Dyslexia

I have experience with teaching or tutoring students with Dyslexia. I have a Special Education (Varying Exceptionalites) teaching certificate in the state of Florida. I know strategies and methods to aid in reading. I, also have a Reading Endorsement in the State of Florida.

I also teach test taking/study skills to enable a student to reach success on a Quiz or Test. I use graphic organizers, webs, two column notes, Frayer Model and other resources to help a student reach success.
I also teach students strategies for Multiple Choice, T-F, Fill in the Blank, and short answer sentences to prepare or take a Quiz or Test.
