Over the last 20 years, I have taken the education in my children's lives very seriously. Not only did I take joy in bedtime stories - which were read well into middle school, but also volunteered in their schools as a reading mentor. I also have eight years of recent experience as a VPK instructor. Teaching young children phonics and basic math concepts in a fun way was rewarding to both me and the children I taught. Having pre-Kindergarten children understand phonics early, makes for early readers! I know the importance of having all children read to their grade-level by the 3rd grade.
My passion for learning grew to earning my degree late in life! I found that Math was a passion on mine. I excelled in all forms of Math, and enjoy the new Common Core Math challenges that children are facing in the upper Elementary grades. I continue to volunteer at my child's elementary school as a reading mentor.
I have been trained in learning and teaching phonics to the younger student. I also have received training to become a reading mentor. My passion comes from the joy that reading can bring to a young child. Grammar is an important part of the English language. I understand and can teach grammar in easy-to-follow rules.
I have had three children. The oldest is a doctor and the youngest is in the 5th grade. Elementary years are the most important. Every student needs the base that their education will stand on. If you don't "get it", school will become difficult for you. I have been trained through "Handwriting without Tears" which is a great program for VPK as well as Kindergarten students.
I have been trained through the Early Learning Coalition. Phonological Awareness is key for the younger student! This is where the foundation is built. Once it is built, reading and comprehension come naturally!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
