About Ruth

I believe the reason we don't perform as well as we should can be summed up in our lack of confidence.
Once we begin to chip away at the exterior of a challenge, the sooner a positive self concept can be inserted.I have seen what a difference having someone believe in them does. I want to inspire students to believe in themselves and then use this powerful presence to continue on their path and to share these successes with others.

I have many years of positive experiences coaching successful life skills both in athletic and educational contests. I have taught learners of all ages and all levels. I believe that asking the right question, listening to the answers, and then applying these answers is the secret to success in all areas of life. Using my Master's degree in Sport Psychology and my personal years of playing and coaching varsity sports, has allowed my athletes and individuals to perform at the best of their abilities. I hope to meet you at the Tutor Table soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have taught Career Development on the college campus for 3 years. As the Career Coordinator for 2 years I helped students with their resumes, interviews, and attire. I was responsible for both graduates and current students. By networking I know what the employers are looking for and have some very effective tools to provide the best candidate for the position.

Fitness

I picked fitness because I am a specialist in the mental aspect of sport. I have my Masters Degree in Sport Psychology and to be a true athlete, the mind needs a constant fitness program to be in the best possible shape. I have taught fitness classes on the college level.

Public Speaking

I have taught Interpersonal Communications on the college level to include public speaking to large and small groups. I have also acted as the Sponsor to various clubs and have coached the students to deliver motivating and clear speeches. I have spoken to groups of hundreds and teach public speaking techniques within other college subjects.

Study Skills

I have been teaching College Success for over 8 years. I have written the curriculum for it to include specifically proven successful strategies. Some of these include: time management, reading for content, memory building and overcoming test anxiety.

Tennis

I started playing tennis when I was very young. I competed on the college level both in singles and in doubles. I was ranked in Texas as an adult and played on a USTA/Volvo tennis league. I used my Sport Psychology degree as a mental tool on the tennis court. I coached several 5A high school athletes to the state championships.
