I am a FLDOE certified math educator for Middle School Math, Grades 5 - 9, as well as Adult Education GED Math. Before teaching math professionally in 2009, I was a homeschooling teacher-parent to my own three children. Once my children could drive, they began dual-enrollment at our local community college. My job as a homeschooling parent changed from teacher-parent to tutor. I enjoy working with students one-on-one or in small groups because the "ah-ha" moments are more likely to happen in a personalized learning setting.

I believe memorization is helpful but math should be more than memorization -- math should make sense. In order for math to make sense, students need tools in their toolbox. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills --the inner-dialogue that becomes mathematical reasoning-- are as important as new math skills. Learning new math skills together with mathematical reasoning produces confident, successful students who are equipped to pursue their interests and achieve their dreams.

College math courses I taught/tutored in Delaware before relocating to Florida in January 2020:
-Basic Arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
-Prealgebra (integers, fractions, decimals, ratios and proportions, percentages, measurement, and an introduction to algebra that includes solving linear equations and inequalities).
-Elementary Algebra (solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities as well as systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, factoring, rational expressions, radical expressions, and quadratic equations as applied to a variety of applications, including geometry).
-Contemporary Math (Venn diagrams and set theory, ratios and proportions, percentages, consumer mathematics, basic algebraic principles, and introductory statistical concepts).
-Math for Health Sciences/Nursing Math (Health-related mathematical applications using algebrai

I homeschooled my three children and tested every year with IOWA Test. For K-5, we used Abeka ELA program. We used Institute for Excellence in Writing in Middle/High School. We used Abeka Math K-5, then Saxon Math, and switched to Teaching Textbooks through Precalculus. We used a local co-op for History, art, music, and gymnastics. The IOWA Test revealed a reading comprehension issue in my youngest in Grade 5. We used a Reading Comprehension Grade 5 workbook by Scholastic and my son's reading comprehension improved.

Best tutor!

My kids love their time with Karen. She really gets to know them and where they are academically and also provides great notes on how each session went, as well as extra work to have on hand between sessions if helpful.

Makes things easy to understand.

Karen is very helpful. She gives you concepts in such a basic way that puts everything in place. In my first session she broke down three concepts that made everything click. I am very thankful to have her as a tutor.
