Good morning, afternoon or evening! My name is Matthew Shimon H., and I'm an author & aspiring university professor. My love for writing extends to my early years, and I knew by 10th grade that I wanted to be a writer. I attended the University of West Florida, and I majored in Creative Writing and minored in Philosophy, graduating in 2019 with my B.A.

After graduating, I enrolled in a program known as MITF (Masa Israel Teaching Fellows). In this program, I resided in Haifa for a year and volunteered as an English Teaching Fellow (i.e., assistant to the lead English teacher). I took small groups of students ranging from 2-7 students, from grades 3rd-6th, outside the classroom and taught them in a more relaxed yet specialized environment. Upon my return from abroad in the Summer of 2020, I found employment at the Cushman School, where I currently work as a teacher's assistant for the 4th grade LCA class for neuro-divergent children.

Generally speaking, my qualifications as an English tutor stems from my vast experiences as a writing student enrolled in rigorous and diverse courses along with my experience, and therefrom formed skills, in teaching younger students. My program at UWF was both flexible and rigorous: I was only required to attain a total of ~70 credit hours for my major and ~20 credits for my minor. These courses engendered in me an appreciation for artistic collaboration and an acute attention to detail concerning the editing process. However, The freedom I was allowed enabled me to probe for different courses that piqued my interests, and these included courses in Metaphysical poetry, Romanticism, and Modernism (specifically: a course covering Faulkner's major works, a course dedicated to Joyce's "Ulysses," and an experimental course titled "Poetry and Public Art"). These courses, along with the courses of my minor, developed my analytic and research skills.

More importantly than all of my a
