Union College, Schenectady, NY (BA Modern Languages)
University of South Florida (Master's)
I have experience teaching grades 2 through adults in subjects such as Science (Anatomy, Biology, Physical, Earth, Environmental, General, FL DOE Certified), Math (grades 2-9), Reading (grades K-12, FL DOE Certified), ESOL (grades K-12, FL DOE Certified), English, History, Spanish (B.A. in Modern Languages, Spanish/German, lived in Mexico twice) and many elective subjects. I also have twelve years' experience in private tutoring of ill students in their homes under the Sarasota School Board's Hospital/Homebound program. I love to meet people where they are and help infuse in them a love of learning that will help them throughout their lifetimes.
I have a very good grasp of English grammar and composition and do some writing myself. I love to meet and work with people from other lands and cultures and have been both an exchange student myself and a host sister (in my youth) and a host mother (as an adult). Having majored in languages in colleges and being fluent in Spanish has helped my ESOL teaching skills.
I have lived in Mexico twice, (once as an exchange student in high school and again after college), and earned my Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages, majoring in Spanish. I am fluent in conversational Latin American Spanish.
Let me help you learn the subjects you need or want to know. I am an easy going yet effective teacher who wants to help you learn not only a subject area, but the learning skills you will need to keep on learning your whole life through. I have experience teaching grades 2 through adults in subjects such as Science (Anatomy, Biology, Physical, Earth, Environmental, General, FL DOE Certified), Math (grades 2-9), Reading (grades K-12, FL DOE Certified), ESOL (grades K-12, FL DOE Certified), English, History, Spanish (B.A. in Modern Languages, Spanish/German, lived in Mexico twice)
Profª Margareth is a wonderful teacher! She has patience, knowledge and is very nice! She knows grammar and has a perfect and correct pronunciation. I can really to recommend Profª Margareth G.
Margaret is absolutely the best tutor I've known. I'm very happy after my lessons with her. She took her time and listen to my need in English. I'm so ready for my next lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The bulk of my teaching for the last 20+ years had been in the Biological Sciences (Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Health Sciences). I am certified by the FL DOE to teach Biology grades 6-12. I have a wide variety of lab experience, including working in the Biology lab in college. My first job was as a Respiratory Therapist, so I am very interested in all things medical.
I have taught Hospital/Homebound students in the local school system for about 12 years. Many of the students I taught were elementary grade students who were too ill to attend school for lengthy periods of time. I taught everything from elementary school English/Language Arts, Math, Science, History, to Reading. I am also certified to teach Reading in grades K-12 by the FL DOE.
I have tutored in all elementary and middle school subjects for the Sarasota County School Board Hospital/Homebound program for over 12 years, as well as teaching high school Science for 21 years. I have also taught elementary Math as a tutor several times since my retirement in 2016. I am also certified by the State of FL Dept. Of Education to teach Reading and have taught it in the classroom.
I worked 8 summers planning and directing summer camps for preschool-K and grades 1-6 at a local hands-on Science museum. This included both in-house activities and arranging and managing field trips to local Science sites (aquariums, formal gardens, beaches, wetlands, etc.) I also had a former health care career, so how the human body functions is one of my specialties.
I am experienced in teaching English as a second language. My FL DOE certification includes ESOL grades K-12. I am currently working with 4 different groups of people on improving their English: a man from Peru, a young woman from Thailand, a couple from Brazil, and four French children. Teaching English as a second language is one of my favorite things to do!!
I am certified by the FL DOE to teach ESOL grades K-12. I have taught ESOL classes in Sarasota High School in the past. I enjoy teaching English to those coming to this country to start a new life as Americans.
I am trained and certified by the FL DOE to teach Reading in grades K-12 and actively taught Reading for 2 years in the Sarasota County school system. I have also tutored elementary and middle school students in Reading. I enjoy working with all ages on this skill, one of the most important skills of anyone's life.
I have a B.A. In Modern Languages (Spanish and German) and lived in Mexico briefly twice.
I am FL DOE certified to teach ESOL, grades K-12.
I have successfully passed Wyzant's qualifying tests for teaching English, grammar, reading, vocabulary, and spelling, as well as Biology and Physical Science. I also had a 15- year career as a Respiratory Therapist, which culminated in teaching that Allied Health career for 6 years to adult students. I later taught specialty courses for 11 years in high school for students interested in health careers.
