university of texas at arlington (Pre-Med)
My life as an entrepreneur started with my first business right out of high school in 1969, That year I was also the youngest student on the University of Texas at Arlington campus studying medicine. At the time I had just started a chain of KARATE and health studios and was one of the youngest 3rd Dan [degree] Black Belts in Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan. Chuck Norris and I received our Black Belts from the same Korean instructor in San Diego, Calif. USA. University proved a distraction to building businesses, so I left school to relocate to West Germany after selling my KARATE studios in 1972 and helped form and manage the Intercontinental Football League. In 1974 I participated in with the NFL and Pete Rozelle as well as managed media for the league in Europe. In 1976, and after the NFL's decision to not fund our ICFL I left for Argentina where I owned and operated a defense technology import/export business as well as tour company. During Argentina's hosting of the 1978 Soccer World Cup I became acquainted with Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Bandar bin Mohammed al Saud and later that year I relocated to Saudi Arabia where I would work together on a variety of enterprises. During this period I gained extensive experience in the geopolitics of the middle east and Europe.
In 1986, together with several other investors, I formed an off-shore medical research and development, LifeChoice Pharmaceutical International. In 1989 we moved R&D with clinical trials to parts of Eastern Europe after demise of the Soviet Union. My business interests would extend in a now independent but very unstable regions of Russia, the Republic of Georgia, Armenia, and Bulgaria. In 2010, together with other investors, we formed a new IT startup. My primary roll was project manager and advanced technology integration analyst. I recently went into semi-retirement and now am looking forward to teaching others the skills I have learned. From as simple and practical as working with MS OFFICE to the arts of public speaking, advanced technology integration and marketing. I suppose, that teaching others and sharing my experience allows me to vicariously share the adventures of my students.
Public speaking has always come naturally to me, it is more of an art and less of a science. My tutoring would involve discovering your naturally strengths and weakness, then helping you to exploit them. For me tutoring is more about your "vision and not supervision". If you have the vision, the facts and are yourself confident about both, then I will guide you to where you won't need any supervision. Public speakers always project confidence that their audience can feel. The words often mean less than the atmosphere you create. I have spoken in multiple public venues since I started my first business at the age 16 (sixteen). I have been interviewed on television and radio in Europe, Canada and the United States. In 2009 I appeared on CNN's Larry King Live. The majority of my experience in public speaking has been in making presentations before large groups of potential investors, speaking to human rights and other issues. I have been famous, infamous and always controversial.
Being an entrepreneur and businessman all my life has required wearing a lot of hats. One of the most important was learning to work with word processing programs. Let's face it, when you start a start-up you need to know everything, As old as I am makes me among the first early adopters of word processing programs having gotten my first copy of Word in 1981. I trained my staff on Word for Windows in 1990 and have worked with Word in a daily basis. My tutoring will be more about achieving your objectives than about learning about tools you probably won't need.
Since I was 16 years old I have been a serial entrepreneur. University was boring but finding new ideas and executing on them was exciting, often profitable and sometimes not so much. Having always started new companies and working only for myself meant learning numerous skills and that quickly. Accounting, office management, hardware and software technologies, the arts, sciences and the law are the tool kit of every entrepreneur. There are those who provide lessons to you based only on theory, and then there are those who have been in the trenches and have the scars to prove it. Learn from those who actually did what they profess to know.
I am unconventional but capable teacher providing insights and perspectives in multiple disciplines the very few others can offer. I will make myself available to students for 10 mins to provide a consultation for quick solution. Or 24/7 if a student needs it. I am a futurist, philosopher technologist and entrepreneur who has lived market economics, survived political upheavals, taught himself medical science, law, accounting, office management, computer programming, finance and more. I am fascinated by fascinating people. Clearly learning with me is not for everyone. But if you feel you are set for a path towards something great, then let me join your journey. A good teacher immerses themselves into the worlds of their students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a lifetime entrepreneur I have created, funded, managed and sold many companies, some in the millions of dollars. The types of companies I have owned, controlled and managed have been diverse, from sports franchises to oil and gas and pharmaceuticals. Most recently several IT startups. Finally, and not insignificantly my business experience goes beyond the United States and Canada and is international including Eastern Europe, the Middle East and South America. It is the breath of my experience that create value in what I can teach about business.
The ability to speak before an audience, manage a media interview or present yourself and your value proposition before investors and others is sine qua non talent required by every business owner, senior manager, lawyer or politician. My skills come from the experience of hundreds of public presentations over the course of a lifetime. That experience includes appearing on dozens of TV, Radio and newspaper interviews in different countries including Canada and the United States.
