I am a Certified Elementary Teacher. I have an Associate degree (A.A.), Bachelor degree (B.S. Ed), and Master degree (M.Ed.). All three of my college degrees are in Elementary Education (Pre-K to 5th). I enjoy teaching. This is such a simple statement but it means so much to children who need help so that they can say," I enjoy learning". I know that learning can be fun. We should both feel good when the "light goes on" and the student says, "Oh, I get it!" I have never met a student who could not learn. Everyone can be successful. There are multiple styles of learning. My job is to find which learning styles work best for the student so that I can teach in the ways that are most meaningful and will hold the student's attention. I use direct instruction, real world examples, flashcards, games, student interests, technology, and anything else that makes learning relevant for the student. I am positive, energetic, determined, and passionate about life. My administration used these exact words when evaluating me under the Teacher Evaluation System (TKES) in the spring of 2015. I follow the Common Core Guidelines and believe that students must be engaged in the learning for it to be successful.
I am married and have 3 grown children. My two oldest attended public school. My youngest, now 19, did homeschooling facilitated by me for 14 years. With 3 children, I have learned that all children do not learn the same way or on the same time schedule, but all are capable of success. I have taught over 10 years in public schools in Georgia. I have taught every grade from Pre-K to 4th. I set up and started the Pre-K program in my local public school in 1995. I taught 4 year old Kindergarten for a few years and moved directly to 4th grade. In the last 5 years, I have taught Kindergarten, then First Grade, and then Second Grade for 3 years consecutively. I really enjoy teaching the lower grades because I love to teach the basics of phonics, reading, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, handwriting, math, and study skills. If a student does not learn the basics, it is like building a house on the sand instead of the rock: there is no firm foundation for higher future learning. Additionally, I have been an after-school tutor and Lead teacher for 2nd grade students, who were struggling to academically catch up, for the last three years through the 21st Century Program of the Public Schools. Also, I have many years of tutoring experience as a volunteer tutor for students of all ages. I have taught 4 year olds to read and taught adults to read. No matter what the age of the person I teach to read, I feel fulfilled. Reading is the fundamental subject needed for success in all other subjects and life in general. I enjoy helping the students discover the feeling of fulfillment, self-confidence, self-esteem, and total success!
In July 2015, I was awarded the Race to the Top Merit Pay Bonus in Georgia. This came as a surprise to me. This is a hard award to achieve. It is based on several qualifications as a teacher. One of the qualifications is that the teacher must have Exemplary evaluations from Administration conducted during several visits to the classroom to observe instruction. There are 10 key elements that must be met during this time, including the methods the teacher uses and how engaged the students are. Another qualification is that the entire class of students (I had 25 students) must progress from basic to proficiently higher levels on all state and county required tests. All students must meet the Student Learning Objectives for the next grade level, also. Some of my 2nd graders could barely read 4 words and had low math skills at the beginning of the year. I worked very hard to bring them up to level and surpass it. I know they were learning since I am very hands-on with students. Still, I was happily surprised when my entire class surpassed their goals. I never even gave the award any thought. In fact, I was in Florida, relocating, when I found out I had won this honor. I teach because I enjoy it. I love children. I want to see them succeed. I do it for them. Every year, my students have had some of the highest growth in the district according to test results. My past principals accredit this to my personality and my love of children. I treat them like they are mine. I truly care.

My hourly rate is $40. However, the price could be lowered if you schedule multiple times per week and it is a short commute. Feel free to ask.
Melisa has been working with both my children for several weeks now. They enjoy her and are learning so much. I highly recommend her.
One student is First Grade and other is Third Grade. They are both such a joy to work with. It is nice when children are so eager to learn. I am enjoying meeting with them each week.
Helped Ava immensely, will retain her services at least through the summer to get her ready for the next year!
Ava is so fun and full of energy. I enjoy going to her house to tutor each week. Her parents are awesome people and so supportive of Ava that they do everything they can to supply anything we need.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a Certified teacher of Elementary Education. My degrees are AA., B.S. ED, M.ED. and all are in Early Childhood Education Pre-K to 5th. I am very familiar with the Common Core Guidelines because I have been teaching for the last five years in Savannah, Georgia, where the Common Core is totally embraced and is a major influence on our lesson plans, teaching methods, and evaluations. I have been evaluated on the TKES (Teacher Keys Evaluation System) that focuses entirely on the Common Core. I use the Common Core Standards and Essential Questions in my lessons. It really helps me to always know what direction to work in. I have deep knowledge of this. I am definitely hands-on, highly qualified in Common Core.

I did summer student teaching in those grades as well during my Master Degree study. I am a certified Pre-K to 5th grade teacher. All of my degrees: A.A., B.S, and M.Ed are all in Early Childhood Education. I enjoy teaching all subjects. In college, I was trained to write my letters and numbers with a slow, concentrated motion until they looked just like the examples. I had to practice to drop all of the fast, scribble forms that we all tend develop over the years. Also, I taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade and all are expected to do daily handwriting skills. In Pre-K, the skills are lines and circles. In Kindergarten, there are dotted letters and numbers to follow until correct letter formation occurs. In First Grade, the actual letters and numbers are practiced on a regular basis along with use in word and sentence writing skills. By Second Grade, students are marked off if a teacher cannot decode a word while reading a spelling word or a writing assignment. It was always important and practice follow through was repeated on a regular basis.
I write very neatly and use the correct handwriting. Often, I see other teachers doing "cute" writing and I just want to correct their handwriting. Of course, I never would. I just know that my training will stay with me forever. I am highly qualified and would like to share this knowledge with my students at WyzAnt. Thank you.
I am a certified Pre-K to 5th grade teacher. All of my degrees: A.A., B.S, and M.Ed are all in Early Childhood Education. I enjoy teaching all of the subjects. I was trained deeply in phonics instruction, along with whole language. Also, I taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade and all are embedded in the use of phonics for teaching reading, spelling, writing, and so on. I also was trained on Wilson Fundations program, required to use it daily, and was evaluated on instruction using it by my Administration. It is a phonics based program that also teaches the exceptions to the rules. Along with teaching in a public school system, I homeschooled my daughter from age 5 -17. I used my phonics skills to help her read on a 12th grade level by time she completed 4th grade. I am highly qualified and would like to share this knowledge with my students at WyzAnt. Thank you.
I am a Certified teacher of Elementary Education. I have 10 years of experience in teaching Elementary Reading in a public school setting. I have taught using several different programs and approaches. I feel that the most important part of reading is phonics, vocabulary, and everyday life experiences in order to connect with the story. I have used the Dolch Sight Words and Frye Sight Words to help frequency issues. I enjoy reading and want to help every student become an avid reader.
I am a Certified teacher of Elementary Education. My degrees are AA., B.S. ED, M.ED. and all are in Early Childhood Education. I have 10 years of experience teaching. I have taught study skills in every grade I worked in. I have found that many students do not know how to study. I feel that focus and organization are two key elements that have to be mastered in order to learn. I taught and was the 2nd Grade Lead Teacher in the 21st Century public school after school program and study skills were always high on my list of subjects to teach.
As a teacher, I have to have strong study skills in order to complete my lesson plans and requirements of learning new programs and curriculum. I had to study Common Core when it changed from GPS, which changed from QCC. Everyone needs study skills to succeed. I have deep knowledge of this. I am definitely Highly Qualified at Study Skill training.
