As an elementary school teacher in California I implemented the Open Court Phonics program and taught the Fundamentals Phonics program in Connecticut. I graduated Cum Laud from the University of California in San Diego with a Bachelors Degree in English and American Literature. I received a Multiple Subject Clear Credential in California and taught there for six years. I also substitute taught in Connecticut Pre K- through Fifth grade.
After working at MGM studios I went on to study Renaissance Drama in England. There I saw the written work come alive in the plays of Shakespeare and Marlowe. These experiences as well as working as a writer on several television series prepared me to impart my love of reading and writing to the students I work with. Communication is an essential part of any education process and that is what I love to do with my students. Becoming a life long learner begins with basic communication between student and teacher.
Having taught twenty or more children in a room full of chatter and distractions I know how hard it can be for some students to focus on the lesson at hand. Working one on one with students in an environment that may be more conducive to a child's style of learning can help him or her focus and in the process bring the material to life. This broadening of possibilities is what I hope to offer when I tutor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
