About Austin

My love of teaching stems from giving students confidence to create with their own voices. As someone who started out in a rural public high school and graduated magna cum laude from Notre Dame, I've learned that persistence pays off. Having tutored and taught first grade through college over the past five years, I help students from all backgrounds attain the joy of discovery and improved grades from the crucible of world history to the musical language of English literature.

I bring experience at all levels to SAT/ACT/AP test prep, essay writing, editing, reading comprehension, and teaching of all language arts and social sciences. Named an AP Scholar with Distinction after receiving six 5's on AP exams, I bring engaging tutoring to literature, U.S. Government, U.S./World History, writing, and environmental science courses. My experience as a student in Oxford's tutorial system allows me to personalize my teaching style, and I am also happy to accommodate any homeschool curriculum.

Working with each student to develop an individualized lesson plan, I strive to challenge you while keeping coursework manageable and building a strong foundation. I also provide structured homework after each session and offer periodic progress reports and feedback.

My tutoring hours are flexible and can travel to students or tutor online for a reduced rate. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and I look forward to working with you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have a BA in English literature from the University of Notre Dame and spent one year studying English at Oxford University. I also received scores of 5 on the AP English Literature and AP English Language exams as well as an 800 on the SAT writing section.

SAT Reading

I have a BA in English literature from the University of Notre Dame and spent one year studying literature at the University of Oxford. As an English major, I read many dense texts comparatively across styles, genres, and time periods before analyzing their structure in written essays. I scored a 780 on the SAT Reading section in high school and am well-acquainted with strategies for maximizing student success on the exam.
