About Alexandra Karla

Hello there,

I've been tutoring people of all ages for over five years now, and it is something that I absolutely love and enjoy doing.

I have graduated with a degree in Mathematics, Statistics and Economic.

Whether you're looking to score high on the SAT/ACT, to go back to school, or even just to improve your grades and knowledge in Math, I am sure I will be able to help you.

I do not believe that "some people just can't do Math." There is no such thing. Yes, we all have our limits, but through perseverance, exercise and interest, anything can be achieved. While most of my students don't necessarily plan to follow a "Math-intensive career", I still like to open them to the many applications of it in their favorite fields and hobbies.

I am the owner of two successful businesses in Europe and the U.S. While many parents or students might think my rate is high, please take into consideration that after Wyzant % and IRS, tutors are left with half of their rate. This is just a pure hobby for me and I do not see it at all as a source of income. I can only tutor a few hours a week, and scheduling will have to be made in advance due to different time zones.

I'm fluent in Hungarian and Romanian. Also, if it helps, I'm a Spanish and French intermediate speaker and writer.

Feel free to check out the other subjects that I might be helpful with.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I've worked for a company in the past and tutored SAT and ACT prep classes to groups of students. I recommend students who are comfortable with basic Math formulas to take the ACT instead of the SAT if it's a matter of choice, as the SAT is known to be a bit harder on the English portion.

I have obtained a maximum score of 800 on the SAT Math portion on my first try.
I have a really strong background in Mathematics, and I'm here for students who probably weren't as lucky as I was with my educational background. There's nothing more rewarding than hearing that they've gotten accepted by their top choice university.

Pascal

I have worked for 4 years in Pascal, and even though it is a fairly old programming language, its simplicity and expressivity can provide you with basic logical thinking helpful for any other computer language you'd like to learn.

Precalculus

I have taken Precalculus in my Freshman year of high school, and while I know that many students perceive it as the hardest class, it is really not that bad!

I will soon obtain my degree in Mathematics, and I have to say I've used what I've learnt in Precalculus in numerous classes- (e.g. Economics, Chemistry, Biology) not only in ones related to pure Mathematics.

A good foundation in Precalculus will help one grasp all levels of Calculus much more easily.

SAT Math

I have obtained a maximum score of 800 on the SAT Math portion on my first try.

TEAS

I have tutored numerous future nursing students for the Math portion of the TEAS test. They've always ended up obtaining a much higher score than the one required by the university they've applied to.

I have taken the TEAS test and obtained 100% on the Math portion, so I think it really helped me as an instructor to also have an insight on the timing and difficulty level of the test.

TOEFL

I've taken the TOEFL test years ago as a high school student, before I even moved to the U.S. and obtained a score of 113/120 - IBT format. As a permanent U.S. resident, I'm sure I could help other students to achieve a score that's even higher than mine.

TOEFL score requirements for various schools:

Harvard 109
Stanford 100
Yale 100
UK:
Oxford 109
Cranfield 100
Cambridge 110 (min 25/section)
Manchester 100

Good, knowledgeable, patient tutor — I would recommend her to anyone for tutoring statistics! She is patient and helpful. Goes out of her way to ensure I understand what's going on. Easy to get in contact with and returns phone calls/e-mails right away. ...
