I have worked as a teaching assistant and private tutor in various subject areas for eight years. I received a BA with Honors in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College in 2008. I was at UCLA for three years pursuing a Molecular Biology PhD. While I was a student at UCLA, I tutored high school students in subjects such as Geometry, Algebra, and Biology. I was also an undergraduate teaching assistant for three quarters at UCLA (1. Molecular Biology and 2. Genetics). As a teaching assistant, I taught small group classes (23-25 students) and guided laboratory instruction. I also served as a private tutor to thirteen UCLA undergraduates for the "Introduction to Molecular Biology" course.

Since 2011, I have been working as a full-time tutor and educational consultant in Southwest Florida. Currently, I help high school and college students in math, science, test prep, and college admissions essays. I have tutored countless students, and I've helped them go on to college, most of which lie within the top 20 ranked schools in the country.

During the past couple years, I have began to focus a lot of my attention to the college admissions process: ranging from helping students prepare for the SAT and ACT to helping them through the college admissions process (editing admissions essays and helping students fill out college applications). I have had a great deal of success with this, ultimately helping students receive admissions offers from top colleges such as Yale, Duke, Brown, Johns Hopkins, University of Miami, to name a few.

I have learned a great deal during the past 8 years, but with every student I learn a new skill. I adapt and adjust my skill-set to fit each student's needs and learning style. Education is and should be an ever-evolving learning experience for the educator. Therefore, it is disheartening to learn about school teachers who do not evolve in their teaching methods. I hope to be an antidote to that!

Encouraging and instills confidence

My son who doesn’t usually say much said ‘she was good, knew her stuff’. He feels more confident going into his geometry test tomorrow. Kelly was very encouraging and explained things in a clear manner.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

My son had his first session with Kelly today. It was an excellent session. We look forward to continued tutoring by Kelly in the hopes of having our son hit at least a 32 on the ACT.

Knowledgeable

Kelly helped Me with the reading portion of the ACT. She explained time management and how to complete the test without being rushed. I already feel more comfortable about the ACT.

Knowledgeable and patient

Kelly is very focus and knowledgeable in all areas of preparing for the SAT and ACT. Kelly starts the review by providing the essential tools for the student to familiarizing with the 101 basic rules, to how to use a graphic calculator, to short cuts of test taking to the actual pre-work of the contents for both math and reading. Kelly is very observant of how the students comprehends the contents and test taking abilities. Kelly is very accommodating and focuses on the student needs. Kelly provides feed back and homework after every session. I would recommend her to any student. Kelly is very pleasant and easy to work with.

Significantly impacted scores & testing process; focused, supportive, friendly person

Kelly & I tutored on average twice a week for six months. Initially, I wanted her help in preparing for the SAT & ACT math. However, in addition to identifying and addressing my problem areas for the tests, she was a great resource for the ACT science section, SAT math subject test; she also supplemented my school math class, study skills, test preparation, and college search process. Under her tutelage, my ACT math score went from a 25 to a 29; combined with my other scores, my ACT cumulative score rose significantly, enough to open the doors to the most selective schools. Kelly is personable, genuine, focused and supportive. I'd give her the highest recommendation for any student, especially those beginning or in the midst of the AP/SAT/ACT testing processes.

Wonderful tutor

Kelly is a wonderful tutor and always on time. She has been very consistent since the beginning helping our student with some gaps in his algebra knowledge. He eventually was able to excel, thanks to her persistence and patience. Kelly is truly determined and goes far and beyond. She even follows up with the teachers to bring her up to date with the student’s progress in order to strengthen their knowledge in the subject and present assignments. I highly recommend Kelly to anyone who is seeking an excellent tutor.

Outstanding!

This past school year was so difficult for our 16 year old daughter who, being an honors student, began to experience seizures which compromised her ability to learn her class material, particularly algebra 2 and biology. We were looking for a tutor who could handle both of these subjects and develop new learning strategies for our daughter. Our family and Kelly did not know anything about the long-term effects of epilepsy and the challenges that come with each new seizure. Kelly agreed to work with us during this very uncertain and distressing time for our daughter. Unbelievable! She worked her schedule around seizures and math tests and so much more. She literally helped to rebuild our daughter's confidence and grades. I cannot say enough about the outstanding work Kelly did for us and our daughter. I especially recommend her for those who may find themselves in a special needs situation. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you Kelly.
