I am a retired teacher from Georgia with 25 years of teaching experience. I have been coming to the Destin/Santa Rosa Beach area for 50 years. I have retired here and am no longer in public education, but would still like to work with students who need assistance. I have a degree in English Education from Louisiana Tech University and reading certification from Georgia. I have been successful with problematic reading students. While teaching reading, I focused on reading skills (main idea, comprehension, fact and opinion, context clues and oral reading) and was quite successful in bringing up reading test scores. I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes of regular and remedial reading.
My reading classes also incorporated class novels, vocabulary skills, and writing skills. I found that reading along with a book on tape increased listening and comprehension skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
