I love learning! I love teaching! The challenge to identify each student's learning style keeps me on my toes. I've taught elementary school for the past ten years, spending the first five in 3rd grade and the last five in 5th. Believe me, there's a reason for the phrase and show, "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?"!
I educate with an inquiry-based, hands-on approach. I believe learning is and should be fun as well as rewarding. I also believe that knowledge truly is power. I enjoy integrating STEAM into lessons, using technology, music, art, and engineering to enhance instruction in reading, writing, history, science, and math. I believe they all fit nicely together like a puzzle.
I have a BA in Information Technology and am about half way through my Master's in Educational Administration. I enjoy working with kids!
I am familiar with many innovative, 21st century teaching strategies to build understanding of foundational skills in elementary or middle school. I have received a year's worth of STEAM Innovator Professional Development from Discovery Education, as well as STEM training from NASA. I can teach all elementary and middle school subjects, such as reading, writing, science, math, geometry, and algebra concepts using many strategies to sharpen specific skills.
I will try my hardest to encourage a love for learning by making learning fun. I will improve confidence and understanding to make you successful! I love learning! I love teaching! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching for 10 years, five in 3rd and now five in fifth. There's a reason for the saying, "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader"! This year I received STEAM Innovator Training from Discovery Education throughout the year, over 30 hours atleast, learning 21 century teaching strategies. I have been teaching common core reading and math for several years. I believe learning is fun and hands-on learning experiences integrated throughout concepts provide understanding as well as exposure to all subjects. I enjoy teaching.
