Albert's patience and understanding made completing homework easier for Daniel. Albert has the knowledge needed to effectively model problems and quickly determine where my son is making mistakes. I feel confident that with Albert's encouragement and help my son will catch up to where he needs to be.
I currently tutor K through Grade 8 students in helping them complete assigned homework and provide additional customized instruction to those needing extra help to catch up or excel. I find that the one-on-one, face-to-face instruction setting is the most effective way to engage students and demonstrate to them that their academic success is of primary importance. I use graded classroom and homework assignments as a basis for tailoring instruction to meet the student's need.
As an experienced tutor, writer, editor and public speaker, I stress the importance of proper grammar and its relationship to career success. I continuously evaluate students and encourage them to adopt grammatically correct speech and writing patterns. In tutoring prealgebra, I stress the importance of first mastering basic math concepts. I prefer to use the student's assigned textbooks to help them catch up and keep up with the pace of classroom instruction. I also use real-life illustrations and experiences to demonstrate the importance of accurate analytical thinking and its impact on personal and professional decision making. Using the student's corrected homework and classroom assignments, I tailor instruction to insure that each concept is mastered before moving on to the next.
I stress the fact that reading is fundamental to analyzing and solving all of life's challenges, and I promote reading as a primary source of entertainment and knowledge. I tailor instruction content and timing to match the student's level of interest and skill.
I promote reading and writing as the best method of expanding the student's vocabulary. I tailor all instruction to meet the student's existing skill level as a step towards meeting and exceeding grade-level expectations. I relate all lessons to the student's expressed life interests to help alleviate boredom associated with seemingly irrelevant curriculum and to encourage the student to get excited about learning.
I integrate grammar, spelling, vocabulary and reading to help students clearly express themselves in writing. I use corrected classroom and homework assignments as beginning point for instruction tailored to help the student keep up with grade-level expectations. I also stress the importance of good writing skills as an underlying foundation of effective oral communication.
