I love helping students achieve their true potential. I have a Bachelors in mathematics from Cornell where I graduated summa cum laude as the top math undergrad of the year, and then earned a PhD in mathematics from the California Institute of Technology. I started teaching by introducing accelerated high school students to college level mathematics at summer math camps. I continued teaching as an undergraduate and graduate student and have won numerous awards and distinctions for my teaching over the years. After earning my PhD on higher dimensional geometry and topology, I continued to follow my passion for quality instruction by working as a curriculum designer, and specialized in machine learning and education technology.
Math classes at the best colleges tend to explore material well beyond what is standard, so any tutor that barely knows the material won't be able to keep up. I have taught and tutored for the most rigorous and intense math classes in the country. For students, most issues arise because professors assume students have already mastered material they may have never even encountered before. This missing material is then built on repeatedly until students are completely lost. Whether you are going from high school to college classes, or from introductory to abstract/theoretical math classes, I can help you fill in those essential gaps in understanding. The look a student gets when they finally "get it" and achieve an effortless understanding of previously difficult material is the best part of my day.
I am qualified for all high school and college math classes including algebra, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, differential equations and college algebra. My absolute favorite topics are linear algebra and calculus.

Please get in touch to see if we would be a good fit.

Statistics

Statistics

I taught probability and statistics at Caltech for 2 years, and I have tutored students taking statistics at Harvard, Stanford, MIT, and Duke. I can help you master all the material on the AP Statistics exam, and then help transition to more advanced college statistics courses involving inferences, continuous distributions, and parameter estimation.

Homeschool

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I am a Math PhD who taught College Algebra for two years.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have helped struggling calculus students at CalTech, Stanford, MIT and Berkeley go from C’s to A’s. I have also prepped high school students from no knowledge to 5’s on their AP calculus exams. I work with your personal learning style and teach you how to spot common tricks and traps. I teach single-variable, multi-variable, and even the calculus of differential forms. I will give you a solid understanding of which methods work on which problems.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have years of experience teaching geometry at both the high school and college levels, and I particularly love helping struggling students get comfortable with proofs. Ask me about trigonometry, proofs, test prep, or even higher dimensional geometry.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I taught ordinary differential equations at Caltech for years, and have tutored students taking differential equations classes at Columbia, Duke, and Stanford. I can help give you a solid understanding of which methods work on which problems, and how to spot the telltale signs of tricks that instructors use to catch students off guard.
Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

Discrete math classes have a sampler of combinatorics, discrete probability, logic, graph theory, automata, induction, number theory, and proofs, so you need a tutor that can easily hop back and forth. I’ve taught discrete math at Caltech at the highest undergraduate level, and have tutored students taking discrete math at Stanford, Harvard, and Berkeley.
Finite Math,

Finite Math

I was the graduate teaching assistant for both the basic and advanced combinatorics/finite math classes at Caltech.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have years of experience teaching geometry at both the high school and college levels, and I particularly love helping struggling students get comfortable with proofs. Ask me about trigonometry, proofs, test prep, or even higher dimensional geometry.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I have helped struggling linear algebra students at CalTech, Stanford, MIT and Berkeley go from C’s to A’s. I work with your personal learning style and teach you how to spot professors’ tricks and traps. So whether you are about to take your first linear algebra class, or if you are a CS major/industry professional who needs to fill in some gaps, I can help you achieve a world-class understanding of this subject.
Probability,

Probability

I taught probability and statistics at Caltech for 2 years, and I have tutored students taking statistics at Harvard, Stanford, and Duke. I can help you master counting arguments, combinatorics, discrete distributions, and then go further into continuous distributions and measure theory.

Very knowledgeable and patient

Nakul did an amazing job to help my daughter understand statistics! He was able to take an entire statistics packet and clearly explain to my daughter. He’s awesome and I highly recommend him.

Incredible Tutor

Nakul tutored by son in graph theory for discrete math and was able to explain entire problem set they were working on in less time than it was taking my son to work out 1 problem. He’s brilliant, patient, and an excellent teacher.

My fear for the Linear Algebra final is gone!!!

Worth it! I fell like my fear is gone for my Linear Algebra Final. He broke down subspaces, and how you use the rules of linear transformations to prove subspaces, but in a clear way due to his understanding. Nothing is harsh. It's just a smooth, informative lesson.

Extremely knowledgeable and very friendly

I have been working with Nakul for a few sessions now, he is absolutely amazing at helping me with my Calculus 2 course... he has an intimate knowledge of the subject and is always capable of expanding explanations past the basic derivations you would see in textbooks. He is great about showing you how certain topics apply to real life, and providing perspectives that make topics feel more wholesome. He always has the sort of difficult questions I search for online but have trouble finding: those that prove themselves really helpful with tackling a wide diversity of problems (clever substitutions, algebraic manipulations, etc.) . I'd highly recommend him to anyone that wants to bring their math to the next level!
