I also train Muay Thai and enjoy reading philosophy books on my off-time so I can get my head clear from all the sciences- sometimes you just need a break.

I really like teaching and tutoring; especially the sciences and philosophy. Tutoring has really given me huge insight into what being a "student" actually means. It is definitely a lot of more than just : study, study, study, books, books, books. I like approaching students as whole individuals, even though you may have specific questions about certain topics, I will always poke around and ask my students how they feel about certain topics and what they feel most comfortable with in terms of their subjects or practice problems. This way, I can be more of a coach or guide through science and philosophy material; rather than, some one who just tells you what to do and how to do it.

As someone who is a paid tutor at a University, I try my best to give my students the most of my attention when and where I can.

I have earned a B in General Chemistry I, an A in General Chemistry II. Also, both Organic Chemistry I and II were finished with A's and General Principles in Biochemistry I and II were finished with A's.

I am a hired tutor for Florida International University and I volunteer tutor for my Organic Chemistry professor at FIU.

For Philosophy, I have earned A's in Intro to Logic, Intro to Ethics, Intro to Philosophy, Metaphysics, Symbolic Logic, Global Justice, Environmental Ethics, Existentialism, Philosophy of Biology and Philosophy of Science. I also volunteer tutor for my Logic professor.

Tutoring- to me- is more of a service than a job title or some "thing" I do on my off-time. I really think it is a form of helping people with the knowledge that I have earned and gained through my own studies.

I was originally hired at the Center for Academic Success at Florida International University to be a tutor who specializes in guiding and mentoring students who are considered "at-risk". I was trained in Bloom's taxonomy, reading strategies, study strategies, communication, and sesnsitivity training so I may better serve my student population. I was able to design workshops for students and was able to take my projects to national and state conferences to act as a blueprint for other college learning centers. I was also included in the design and execution of the Academic Success Plan, which is the my university's equivalent to the Independent Education Plan (IEP) in public schools.

Philosophy

I have earned A's in Intro to Logic, Intro to Ethics, Intro to Philosophy, Metaphysics, Environmental Ethics, Existentialism, Global Justice, Symbolic Logic, Philosophy of Time, and currently working on an undergraduate thesis paper for Ancient Greek Philosophy. I am also a part of my Philosophy club where I have been allowed the opportunity to lead discussions on select philosophical topics and writers. I have also presented my own philosophy topics to my club for constructive criticism and discussion.

I have passed General Biology I and II with A's. I also became a Peer Led Team Learning Tutor (PLTL) for my Biology Department at Florida International University (FIU). I was hired as a tutor for the Center for Academic Success (CfAS) after showing both my boss and colleagues-to-be through assessments and questions that I can tutor the content well. I have also engaged in educational research for biology and chemistry. I have been able to study, design and execute a few educational experiments with my tutoring center to determine what types of educational programs work best with a variety of students. I am very knowledgeable about how to guide and coach students, rather, than just giving them answers.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

After successfully completing General Chemistry I and II with A's, I was hired both by the Center for Academic Success and Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry to tutor students at Florida International University for free. I was trained in Bloom's Taxonomy and was expected to keep notes on all student visits for sake of data collection and yearly review. I subsequently assisted in the development of content and study workshops specifically for General Chemistry first and second semester topics. I also incorporated my Chemistry tutoring into the Academic Success Plan which is my university's equivalent to Individual Educational Plan (IEP) found in public schools.

I earned an A in General Principles in Biochemistry I and II. Earned a B and A in General Principles in Biochemistry Lab I and II, respectively. Due to the nature of the class, I devoted many hours to studying the content, I have also asked if I may offer my services at my tutoring job after performing well on a competency test for FIU's tutoring services. I am studying for the MCAT so I have to constantly go over the biochemistry content in order to keep it fresh in my mind. I am always more than happy to help students out with their biochemistry and discuss how biochemistry can help train students to think of courses and knowledge as linked systems and not isolated topics.

Very good tutor

Jose and I have been working on organic chemistry and biochemistry and let me tell you I've definitely learned a lot in just a few sessions. He is very knowledgeable and has a passion for chemistry that really translates well into his tutoring style. He is very flexible, accommodating, and easy to work with as well. While chemistry isn't my strongest subject, I have found myself enjoying my tutoring sessions and feeling like I have developed a better understanding of it. I highly recommend him as a tutor.
