About Alessandrina

My personal tutoring approach is treating my students in a friendly and encouraging, yet respectful and professional manner. I like to remind them that every effort they make, will no doubt end up in a reward they will receive. During my sessions, I focus on teaching in a creative and fun but very effective way, always making the best possible use of time.

This is because from the beginning I need to convince them that learning can be enjoyed, as opposed to dreaded. This approach comes from my strong beliefs that there are no bad students, but rather bad teachers and there are no students without intelligence, but instead many different kinds of intelligence... The key to doing great in learning is finding which way of teaching works for a particular type of person and what motivates him/her. This is the same, whether we are talking about young kids, teenagers or even adults!!! Once this is identified and targeted, the good grades keep coming in, along with a great sense of satisfaction and, even more important, self-esteem and confidence go up.

In relation to my academic background and applicable credentials, I am a lawyer with many years of practice who has always loved teaching. I was fortunate enough to attend an excellent bilingual private school from kindergarten through high school; later on, a great university for my Bachelor's Degree; and, finally, a competitive law school in order to obtain my Juris Doctor.

Also, I had the opportunity to attend two exceptional summer programs abroad, from which I obtained skills that I still use when tutoring. My kinder-high school years, surely gave me a strong foundation for Math skills, fluency in both English and Spanish, and confidence with all aspects of these languages, that is, conversational as well as the more technical components like grammar, spelling, vocabulary, reading, writing and proofreading.

My college, law school years and summer programs helped me build on those bases, as I learned more advanced math, studied a third language (Italian), and brought my reading, writing, research and drafting abilities to a higher level.

Among my experiences with specific subjects and age groups, there are many different ones worth mentioning. These started as early as during my elementary, middle and high school years, when I was chosen to tutor younger kids in my own school, because I had won Spelling Bees and was part of both the National Junior and National Honor Societies.

Later on in college, knowing Spanish, English and Italian, and having graduated high school with the Spanish, English and French Gold Medal awards, permitted me to work as a Language Lab Tutor. Most recently, during the past two years, I have been able to tutor through my own private business, "Superheroes Tutoring Services".

My tutoring and teaching experiences and achievements -mostly in English/Language, Spanish and Math subjects- have been rewarding for both my students and myself in infinite senses. I have been reached by desperate parents of elementary students, who have been told they will fail the academic year because they cannot read or have very poor reading comprehension skills; middle and high school students are failing their math classes; and high school, college and adult students struggling with acceptance essays, class papers and second languages.

Absolutely all of these students that I have tutored have passed their classes with surprisingly good grades and/or the best of results!!! Whether being able to help young kids discover how to read for the first time, having a high school student get into college because of well written essays or an adult finding a job due to becoming bilingual, have been amazing for me. These anecdotes, along with observing how interesting the human mind is, as I see it in my students, explain my great passion for teaching.

My personal tutoring approach is treating my students in a friendly and encouraging, yet respectful and professional manner. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
