I have served as a tutor for over 10 years and have been working in education professionally for five: three years as an English/Reading/ESL teacher, and two years as a college advisor. I absolutely love students!
School was always my haven, and I was always a really excited student with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Instead, for some, school was considered an insurmountable barrier and a perceived waste of time. It became my personal mission to help my classmates, and I am still working today to be a better educator. I know that school can be a challenge, but I also believe that learning looks different for everyone and everyone can be successful.
Through tutoring, I found the greatest joy in being able to tailor and individualize my instruction to the amazing, unique, and brilliant person who just needed a push and some patience. It is my desire to continue to foster a love for learning, curiosity, and exploration.
I have over 10 years of experience in tutoring English (it was always my best subject!) and three years of high school English instruction. Reading and writing are some of my favorite activities when I want to escape -- it is through them that I am able to create or immerse myself into an alternate reality. It is my hope that every student I help learns to use these tools as a means for self-expression and for power. Words are so powerful, and the individual stories we share help illuminate and preserve our culture.
Feel free to contact me to schedule tutoring for any English/Language Arts-related academic material (including test preparation), as well as for guidance in navigating college applications and college transition. These are my two specialties! I have served as a tutor for over 10 years and have been working in education professionally for five: three years as an English/Reading/ESL teacher, and two years as a college
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
