My Name is Andres. I have been working with Dade County Public Schools as a substitute teacher since October 2008 until March 2014. As of April 2014 I was hired as a full time teacher by Cutler Ridge Middle School. I teach 6th grade Science and 8th grade Science here at the school. I love my job, my years of experience as a substitute teacher are six years of wonderful memories. I am very good at what I do and I love working with children. I also had a part time at Sierra Group Home from 2011 - 2014; I worked with disability teenagers and young adults.
I love teaching and tutoring children for many different reasons but mostly for those special moments when the student “get’s it”, the “it” being whatever theory, subject or approach we have been working on.
It begins with building a relationship with the child/student and getting to know them as a person, what interests them inside and outside of school. I believe in my students and their ability to succeed academically and overall and I make this message clear. I tell them, on a regular basis, “I believe in you! You can do this! I won’t give up on you!” I mean what I say to my students and my sincerity and compassion are evident. My energy, persistence, and patience serves to motivate my student’s to apply themselves and not give up.
We all learn differently, in different ways, and at different times. A student may be a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic (movement) learner. Some are a combination of all three types of learning styles. It is my job as an educator to determine how each of my students learn best, and to teach them strategies that they can use to help them achieve their full academic potential.
I enjoy watching students grow and become more self-confident as students, readers, mathematicians, problem solvers, and people.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
