Amherst College (History, French)
Greetings, from a language lover to another! If you are not a language lover yet (you may consider yourself at this point just a language learner), perhaps I can help. My name is Virginia, and what drives me to tutor students like you is my love and appreciation for languages and my desire to help others discover it as well.
I have extensive tutoring experience working with students at the high school and college levels improve their mastery of English (Language Arts, ESOL, reading comprehension, writing), and French (all high school levels including AP French, and conversation).
As a writing tutor/peer educator in college, I worked closely with college students developing and organizing ideas for essays, guiding them with developing editing skills, reviewing papers and writing projects for structure, grammar, and themes.
After college, I worked as writing coach with local community college students helping them create resumes and essays for college applications. I have also worked with high school students to improve their Language Arts/reading comprehension and gaining mastery of English as a second language.
In addition, I grew up speaking English and Spanish (Spanish is my native language, but I attended a bilingual school since pre-K), which has given me a facility with languages in general. I began taking French classes in elementary school and continued doing so through high school (earning a 5 in the AP French exam) and at Amherst College (earning a Bachelor of Arts in French and History). Beyond a strong grasp of the language, I have experience tutoring local high school students at various French levels.
I am patient, understanding and kind, have a high commitment to excellence, and am able to create an atmosphere conducive to learning one-on-one with students of all backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities. During tutoring sessions with me, we will follow closely your class syllabus end exercises, and I may bring additional learning resources and exercises for us to work together on, depending on your needs as a student.
If you are looking for a reliable, friendly, and efficient English language, French, or writing tutor, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hello there,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a college student, I worked for an after school center providing homework help and tutoring to elementary school-aged children in math. As an elementary math tutor, I am patient and able to clearly explain new concepts to students of various levels of ability and enthusiasm. I work closely with the student's academic curriculum, homework assignments and in-class materials to ensure our lessons are congruent to the methods used by their main teacher in the classroom.
