About Laura

I am dedicated to education and believe in life long learning, I have a 20 year long career in marine and environmental science and the application of current science to environmental policy, restoration and conservation issues in the state of Florida.

I am a big proponent of applied science and feel that actual application of what is being taught in the classroom is the best way to understand, learn and excel in science---by using it! I taught at the middle school, high school and college levels in Miami, but am willing to travel as far as West Palm Beach as I spend 1/2 of my time there.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science with a minor in chemistry and I was working on a PhD in Environmental Science but never completed this work as I was offered a job as the Executive Director of the Tropical Audubon Society and could not do both. I taught and did research for 12 years and I have been the Executive Director of Audubon for 8 years. I have done extensive filed work in genetics, ecology and environmental science including climate studies in Alaska. I find advising, tutoring and working with individuals to be very fulfilling as I can help follow a student through their career. At Audubon I had about 25 interns during my eight years as the director and everyone of them excelled in the environmental science and policy field. Doing this work first hand and getting experience for your resume is always a plus. I look forward to working with someone with a passion for learning and excelling in science.

I encourage you to contact me---there is no doubt I can help you have a more successful outlook on a career path in science, by simply applying this to everyday life to supplement the lessons you are learning in school.

It is important that whomever you learn from they have a passion for science and I certainly do, I look forward to hearing from you.
