About Yem

I'm Yem M. with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). I have been tutoring in STEM areas for 4 years and have had great success with my students ranging from middle school to college-age, non traditional students.

I started tutoring when I independently worked with middle and high school kids with math and science in my freshmen year of college as a way to earn extra cash. Later I worked as an after school math tutor in the Marietta school system in Georgia for two years. I continue to tutor privately to this day and would like the opportunity to tutor more students.

By profession, I am researcher, engineer, PhD student and educator; as such I enjoy all the challenge and
dynamic my work brings. As someone who has spent considerable time in technical field, tutoring helps me with my communications skills in delivering an abstract idea to more relatable concept. I want to leave my students with an affirmation that math can be fun and can unlock so many opportunities. The key to math is practice, practice and more practice. I believe anyone can achieve masterly level in math with an understanding to fundamental concepts coupled with good dose of practice. So whether you are struggling with trig, algebra I&II, calculus or you are trying to prepare for your GED, contact me and I will get you the help you need.

Education:
B.S. Civil Engineering, Minor in Mathematics, Kennesaw State University, Marietta, GA
M.S. Electrical Engineering, Florida International University, Miami, GA
Ph.D. Electrical Engineering, Florida International University- currently pursuing

Lastly, I am a strong advocate for the STEM areas. I believe that even if math is irrelevant to one’s future career, it is used in daily life, helps to build analytical and critical thinking skills; therefore, I believe it should be taught and learned by all.

Yem helped my son improve his pre-calculus grade by a whole letter grade. He went from a low C last semester to a solid B this semester and he hadn't even started tutoring with Yem until after his first grade of the current semester; otherwise his B would have been higher. He feels like he has a good understanding of the material and feels prepared for his quizzes. I can't wait to see how well
