About Autumn

I have an extensive background in teaching English to foreign students as I have been employed for the last few years at Inlingua, which is an international language training organization. I have years of experience teaching group classes and private classes. I enjoy the small group classes, but my passion is working one-on-one with students in the private classes. I love working individually with students and being in a helping role, because I feel it utilizes my strengths in communication. This experience has given me a solid foundation in tutoring students. I am exceptionally creative and patient when communicating with students from all cultures and backgrounds. I am also functionally fluent in the Spanish language which is an added advantage for students from Spanish speaking countries.

I specialize in tutoring ESL/ESOL students at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. I assist students in improving their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. I focus on accent reduction and correct pronunciation, expanding vocabulary, identifying parts of speech and subject- verb agreements, writing conventions and mechanics. I have an advanced certification in Teaching English as a Second Language and four years of teaching experience.

I began my formal art history education in high school when I enrolled in the Advanced Placement Art History course. I excelled in the course and achieved the highest possible score (5) on the Advanced Placement test. From there I graduated Summa cum laude from the University of Florida with majors in Art History and Anthropology. During college I worked within the Harn Art Museum and gained extensive experience in the curatorial departments.

I try to be flexible with with time. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I offer make-up classes. I prefer to meet at a public study space such as a library or bookstore. I am happy to travel to a specific location if it is convenient for the student, as long as that is within a 35 -mile radius of my location.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

I earned the highest possible score (5) on the AP Art History exam. I received my Bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Florida. In my degree program we studied all areas of art including Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Indian, Chinese, Japanese,Medieval, Byzantine and Islamic, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Impressionism, Baroque, Romanticism, Realism and Modernism.

ESL/ESOL

I have three advanced certifications to teach English as a Second Language. I have worked as an English as a Second Language teacher for the last five years. I teach at least two group classes daily consisting of beginner, intermediate and advanced students. I conduct evaluations and assessments to determine students’ level of proficiency and progress. I am highly proficient in various teaching strategies focused on developing oral proficiency, listening and reading comprehension skills, and writing skills.

Grammar

My experience being an ESL teacher has equipped me with expansive knowledge of all English grammatical concepts and rules. As I have taught beginner, intermediate and advanced students I am proficient in all grammar structures.

Proofreading

To be a great proofreader you need to be a great writer. Integral to the process of teaching writing is teaching others to revise and edit, therefore proofreading is a necessary skill. I always ensure in my writing classes that proofreading processes are incorporated into the core curriculum.

Writing

My educational background trained me to be an excellent writer. As I was an anthropology and art history double major my coursework consisted of countless research papers. Therefore, most of my grades in college were dependent on the quality of my writing. As an English teacher a large component of the work I do is teaching students how to structure their writing in the English language and help them to improve their writing style, grammar, coherency and organization. Writing in another language is one of the most difficult skills to learn and it's my favorite topic to teach.

Knowledgable, kind and patient — It was my daughter Victoria's first lesson and I'm very pleased so far. Autumn made Victoria feel very comfortable right from the start and she seems to be very patient and understanding. ...
