As a classroom teacher, I believe it is important to teach concepts, rather than drill skills. I do not teach to the test. Teach for learning, then expose students to test taking strategies. My method has always proven successful. My students always succeed. I am skilled at understanding a student's learning style. There is no subject matter I cannot teach myself in order to help a student.
I offer two types of tutoring. Homework help: This is for students who earn average grades but need the extra push or reinforcement with homework. Remediation: This is for students who are not on grade level. They may have learning gaps that need to be closed. Improvement will not be reflected immediately in grade-level work. The first tutoring session will be dedicated to assessing the student for areas of weakness in order to target areas of instruction.
I will help students achieve reading skills that are appropriate for their grade level. This includes vocabulary, phonics and comprehension.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
