About Omar

I graduated from the University of Miami and will be attending the highest nationally ranked Masters of Communication in the U.S in January at Syracuse for Journalism. Concurrently, I am also doing another Master's degree at the same time in Mental Health Counseling at NOVA which I begin in November. In my undergrad, I had majored in Psychology with a minor in Classical Literature & Civilization with a focus in pre-medicine. Ultimately, I aim to achieve a LMHC license through a PsyD and open a practice founded on a core value of empathy.

Upon entering freshmen year of college at Florida International University, people began to request help in studying for Biology classes. By the end of my first year, I was doing group tutoring sessions of 17 or so fellow students. The word soon spread that I enjoyed explaining and teaching subjects of all sorts. When I transferred to UM, I was requested by individuals to tutor in Psychology and the sciences. In the past 3 years, I've regularly tutored all subjects, with the most numerously requested subject being English & Writing Composition and Literature essays.

Aside from scoring in the top quarter in the verbal section of the GRE, the graduate level exam, I've read the majority of classical literature from Plato to Homer to Aldous Huxley and George Orwell. I've successfully aced senior college level courses on poetry, just for the sake of learning poetry from an academic standpoint. I am a hobbyist writer who studies etymology. I've studied Ancient Latin and Ancient Greek, as well as Modern Arabic so that I can develop a strong understanding of prefixes, roots, and suffixes adopted by the English language. I read for fun with an average speed of about a hundred pages an hour.

As for my writing credentials. I've scored in the top 2% all exam takers for writing analysis part of the GRE. I've written for fun in the past month over one hundred pages. I've successfully aced senior college level courses on poetry composition. I've aided in writing laboratory research publications on subjects such as psoriasis, Fragile-X syndrome, and protein engineering. I have three poems currently undergoing archiving at the University of Miami library.

I was considered to be an unconventional student, I fidgeted and stood at my desk. Although, some of my elementary teachers thought this to be a distraction, I learned to control and harness this energy and this allowed me to consistently score at the top of my class. I've found in growing, that each person has their own method to which they learn best. My method is rooted in aiding people to discover themselves a reason to study the subject. My mantra is: one cannot learn if one does not care. I am very versatile and accommodating and tailor all my tutoring to each student's needs.

I have worked in genetics: research, engineering, and protein engineering; I also have completed the required courses for a minor in Chemistry. I've worked in determining and analyzing mutations for Autism Spectrum Disorders that had a familial lineage, specifically sex-related chromosomal disorders. Fluent in all lab work that pairs with Biology 1: PCR, Gel electrophoresis, RNA extractions, Yeast Artificial Chromosomes. I was invited by the Dean of the Psychiatry Department at Weil-Cornell Medical School to do their clerkship with no prior medical school history and scored second highest in the class; I also completed a post-doctoral workshop in Protein Engineering with them. I've worked in understanding human systems and how they interact, specifically with regards to pharmaceuticals and possible side-effects as well as understanding the physiological basis of mental disorders; this also required I have a strong understanding of medicine in general to evaluate for co-morbid disorders. I have a strong understanding of taxonomy due to working with bacterial mediums for research and specifically studying evolutionary changes from one family to another on an evolutionary scale in order to generalize newly researched information to apply to higher evolved organisms from E.coli to rats to bonobos to humans. I majored in psychology at University of Miami and have practiced psychiatry with actual patients at Cornell Medical School. I have diagnosed, prescribed, and successfully treated patients ranging from depression to schizophrenia with psychosis and antisocial personality disorder. I've studied a range of psychology from history of psychology to behavioral analysis to gender studies to psychobiology in the neuroscience field. Psychology is one of my greatest passions to say the least.

My minor in Classics was at the point of being one class away from a major in Classical Civilization and Literature specializing in Greco-Roman history from 500BCE to 200ADE; with the reasoning I didn’t complete it is due to having run out of time in my collegiate career. I've taken and received A's in two graduate level courses, taken during my undergrad career, one of which is related to history and more noteworthy is a class on Healthcare systems taught by former U.S. Secretary of Health: Donna Shalala.
One of the hardest questions to answer for me is "Where are you from?" It should be a simple answer but I've moved eleven times in my life, averaging about 2 years per place. It's been a blessing to have traveled so much, the world has so much to offer. Intrinsically, I'm a poet fueled by passion for the world that we all share in. One day, I hope through my research in the sciences and appreciation of art, to piece together one of the greatest mysteries of humanity: the origin of consciousness. I've been to over 15 different countries where I've explored their museums and history.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I was considered to be an unconventional student, I fidgeted and stood at my desk. In fact, I was diagnosed with ADHD from kindergarten. However, my parents did not want me to be medicated so, I learned how to utilize such a disorder to my advantage. Although, some of my elementary teachers thought this to be a distraction, I learned to control and harness this energy and this allowed me to consistently score at the top of my class. I've found in growing, that each person has their own method to which they learn best. My method is rooted in aiding people to discover themselves a reason to study the subject. My mantra is: one cannot learn if one does not care; and I use this mantra to motivate students with ADD/ADHD. I've tutored more than several repeat clients who have ADD/ADHD ranging from the ages 9 to 16 to 20 years old. I was able to teach them study skills and the subjects they were studying. As such, I can acquire recommendations from these students and their parents as evidence. Furthermore, I have completed a Psychiatric Clerkship at Cornell Medical School in which I was diagnosing, prescribing, and treating patients of all psychiatric ailments including ADD/ADHD.

Classics

I've read the majority of classical literature from Plato to Homer to Hesiod to Sapho. I've a minor, one class short of a major, in Classical Literature and Civilization. I've studied Ancient Latin and Ancient Greek. I have recommendation letters from the founder of both Purdue University's Classics Department and University of Miami's Classics department. I have taken graduate level courses in Classics and aced them.

College Counseling

I am currently in a Masters program for Mental Health Counseling. Although this seems as if it is not related to college counseling specifically, I have taken courses regarding school counseling and career counseling and have worked with several juniors and seniors in high school for college counseling in which all of them have attended college with a chosen major that they are happy with.

Writing

Aside from scoring in the top fifth of all exam takers for the on my first attempt of the GRE writing analysis section; I've written for fun in the past month over one hundred pages. I've successfully aced senior college level courses on poetry composition. I've aided in writing laboratory research publications on subjects such as psoriasis, Fragile-X syndrome, and protein engineering. I am a hobbyist writer who studies etymology. I have three poems currently undergoing archiving at the University of Miami library. I've studied Ancient Latin and Ancient Greek, as well as Modern Arabic so that I can develop a strong understanding of prefixes, roots, and suffixes adopted by the English language so that I can expand my vernacular. I read for fun with an average speed of about a hundred pages an hour and I have methods to teach on how to write an essay on any given subject.
