About Hanna

Throughout my academic experiences I have had numerous opportunities to share my knowledge with each one helping me develop a tool set of an efficient educator. One of my first teaching experiences was in my home country, Belarus, when I taught and tutored English at the Minsk State linguistic University for 4 years. During that time I practiced my organizational and educational skills working at a children`s activities center as a counselor. Also, I have gone through continuous pedagogical practice, which included giving individual English lessons as well as teaching English in class. I learned how to organize a safe leaning environment, welcome a student`s individuality, and how to encourage and interest students to participate in the process of learning using different teaching techniques.

While I was working on my Associate's Degree at Bellevue College, I worked as a tutor of French for the college, assisting my students in all levels of French. I planned carefully each individual tutorial, emphasizing phonetic, grammar and lexical skills. I analyzed and assessed students' levels, individual talents, abilities, and individual learning styles in order to better suit students' learning needs.

While attaining my Bachelor's in French and Linguistics at Western Washington University I continued tutoring French and began tutoring Russian for a total of three years. This time I taught French to elementary school kids, thus, I faced shorter attention spans and since I could not change the material, all I could do was change kids' involvement with it. Therefore, I planned their sessions in meaningful blocks, followed by singing French songs, playing active games, playing memory games, and exploring aspects of French culture by simply exploring the world.

The pedagogical training that I received while completing my Master’s Degree in French and Francophone studies has deepened my commitment to teaching excellence, leadership and motivation. I have always worked to design my teaching to be relevant to students’ interests as well as reflect the current issues of global community. Having taught both at university and school levels enriched my teaching experience and permitted me to implement various strategies for motivating students’ engagement. The interdisciplinary approach that I apply in my classroom promotes the opportunities to use language in problem-solving tasks which creates a solid foundation that my students can apply in logical and creative ways in real-world situations. I am excited about bringing cultures together in my classroom, which I accomplish through interactive activities and essential digital media and communication technologies. I consider it the best tool to balance out the rigorous fundamental language concepts and foster student learning. I also organize events outside of the classroom, such as film screenings and conversation groups, in order to increase students’ communicative proficiency and enrich it with cultural knowledge.

Additionally, I tutored Russian at Western Washington University to students introducing and explaining diverse cultures of Russian speaking countries, as well as focusing on student`s pronunciation, grammar and lexical skills.

A dedicated teacher! — I can honestly say Hanna is a well-versed instructor. I love her practical approach to language teaching that you don't experience in large group classes.
