St. Johns University (English and Italian )
Touro Law School (J.D.)
Hi! My name is Veronica, I am an attorney and avid writer and reader. I've been tutoring students of all ages for over ten years now. My experience ranges from tutoring elementary school kids with reading and writing to helping college students with their English courses.
I attended St. Johns University in New York for my undergraduate studies and doubled majored with honors in English and Italian. I then went on to law school, in New York as well, and graduated a few years ago. Within my course of study I had the opportunity to continuously improve and cultivate my writing and have been published in newspapers, magazines, and law reviews. In addition, I had the opportunity to take a wide variety of standardized tests including the ACT, SAT, LSAT, and the Bar exam so I understand the appropriate way to prepare and be successful on these tests.
My tutoring tactics are depended on the type of help that the student needs. Every student is different and so every approach will be different. Some students need someone to sit there with them and review things over and over and over, while others need thorough explanation of how to approach the issue at hand. However, when it comes to preparing for standardized tests I initially spend a lot of time with the student breaking down the approach to answering the question and then doing the questions in a timed setting so to allow them to think the right way in a short period of time.
If you have any questions feel free to email me! I look forward to hearing from you. Hi! My name is Veronica, I am an attorney and avid writer and reader. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My experience tutoring younger students (k-8th) started when I was an English major in college. We were asked to tutor students in low income schools for a minimum of 20 hours per month. From my days in undergrad, I have continued to tutor kids of this age with both reading and writing. I usually sit down with student and read with them until they gain confidence with the words on the page, while also stopping every once in awhile to talk about what we just read. I try to establish a friendly environment so that the kids can feel at ease and not under pressure when learning this new skill that can be challenging for many.
I was an English major in undergrad, graduated magna cum laude.
