I am experienced, patient, caring, and flexible. When I tutor my students, I treat them with dignity and understanding, the same way I would want to be treated if I were struggling to learn a challenging new skill. I believe that learning should be enjoyable and rewarding, not frustrating and overwhelming. For this reason, I offer my students as much support as they require at each phase of their learning until they become independent. I try to build my students' confidence and self-esteem through the use of praise and encouragement as they master new skills. My goal is to equip students with the skills and confidence they need to "catch up" or even "get ahead of the game." Every child deserves a chance to become academically successful! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities. I have taught and tutored simultaneously for over 14 years. The majority of my students have had ADD/ADHD. I am very familiar with the symptoms many of these students have and I understand the accommodations that need to be made for them in order to keep their interest during lessons. I try to use high-interest reading material, visuals, manipulatives, and probing questions to keep students engaged. I also offer praise, encouragement, and incentives (stickers, points, certificates) to make learning fun. I try to always make learning a positive experience so these students do not become frustrated or uninterested in their academic studies.

I am a Florida Certified Teacher with over 14 years of experience in teaching and tutoring. I have helped many students with their study skills and organizational skills, especially during private tutoring sessions. I teach my students how to study and prepare for various types of tests, whether they are weekly quizzes/tests or standardized tests such as the FCAT. I give my students tips and tools so they can improve their test performance. These may include highlighting, flash cards, mnemonic devices, trivia games, practice quizzes, or having students recite information or explain a method back to me as if they are the teacher. Studying does not have to be frustrating and overwhelming, if students learn these tips and tools for testing success.
