I have 28+ years of experience in clinical nursing. I currently work as a pediatric nurse at Baptist Hospital in Miami, Florida. My experience ranges from Pediatric and Adult Emergency Room Care to Intensive Care, Trauma, Critical Care as well as neonatal care. The hands on experience I have combined with my master's degree in Nursing makes me an ideal tutor.
Over the past several years, I have had the pleasure of working with several students to help them better understand course material and excel during their clinical rotations. I pride myself in my ability to help my students connect the theories of nursing, plan of care, assessment, interventions and diagnoses so that they can have a comprehensive understanding of human diseases. While tutoring, I use multiple e-learning interactive activities to give my students the best chance to be successful on the NCLEX exam.
I understand the stress and anxiety that accompanies studying for an exam or trying to learn new confusing course material while having so many other things to juggle in your personal life. My goal is teach you everything I have learned in a calm and patient manner to hopefully make everything more manageable and easier for you moving forward. I usually do not write reviews or recommendations, but felt the need to commend Mercedes G. for her ability to put the student at ease and walk them through in a clear way. She is prepared, makes the student really think and understand the material. The "homework" she gives further helps make the material more understandable. She is a nurse and so she practices what she is teaching (I am in nursing school). Plus, she has a great personality!
Mercedes taught me how to find the stem of the question when reading a specific question. This helped me identify what they are asking me. She helped me refresh on conversions as well. She was patient with me and I'm excited to follow her guidelines and be on my way to passing the NCLEX!
I met with Mercedes G. and she was superb! She knows her materials and can break down the most complicated subjects to make one understand. She is super nice and very patient with her students. She goes out of her way to make sure she and her students can meet up and get the tutoring that is needed. Mercedes is very visual and will do drawings for you or whichever is necessary in order for you to understand. I am very confident that with her I can pass this test easily. She is a great tutor and I will recommend her to anyone needing help with their NCLEX test. I truly was satisfied and truly impressed with her teachings and the way she helps you understand from the way you should think by breaking down in pathophysiology to explain why and how the diseases work. Truly satisfied!
Thank you very much for my 2 hour lesson. She is very detailed and determined to make sure you understand and succeeded within whatever subject you are addressing. Did great on my exam!
It was a pleasure be tutored by Mercedes, she was very knowledgeable. She came ready to work, she brought me all kinds of study materials and testing info. Mercedes was very patient, and was able to explain everything to me in great detail. She was able to point out my weakness, so that I would be successful on my exam. I was very impressed with her teaching skills.
Here is a little story about myself. I have always been that student that read a book from cover to cover, always trying to be an over achiever. Unfortunately, my plans did not go as planned for the NCLEX exam. I graduated in December 2012 and planned to take the NCLEX in March. I purchased KAPLAN and it did not work for the first attempt to the test. Second attempt, I read Saunders book and practiced their questions. I felt like I had a bit more knowledge this time; however, I ran out of time at 260 questions. For my third attempt, I was already frustrated and nervous. I did not know what to do at this time. I decided to find a tutor. Thanks to Wyzant, I was able to find Professor Mercedes.
Professor Mercedes contacted me very fast and was very reasonable with where to meet. First time we met, I told her my story. At this point, all I've read on NCLEX forums was to do questions and questions everyday, and that's all I wanted to do. But no, she insisted on asking me my weakness, which I had no idea what they were. I thought I knew it all. So she started little by little asking me about different subjects (pharmacology, cardiology, and the physiology about every system). And oh I am so glad she did that. That was it! I was not passing the test because I did not have the cord of physiology. I figured out that I could not answer the question without knowing which system and which organs did what and what would the outcome would be.
We met up for the next 3 weeks, 2 hrs a day. She was patient and loved to draw, which was perfect for me because I am a very visual person. I have to say that Professor Mercedes has an incredible broad knowledge and is able to explain it well. She is very time efficient and it was worth meeting her every minute of it.
So as my story goes, we did practiced questions at the end of the day and she helped me how to answer them and most importantly how to identify what the questions is asking me. We practiced all kinds of questions, multiple choice, select all that apply, drop and drag, and pictures. I provided my materials and so did she. She has some great sources. The day before and the day of the exam, she counseled me and it made me feel so much better.
I can officially say I am a Registered Nurse, and I would have not done it without the help of Professor Mercedes G.
P.S: I got 83 questions.
I'm getting tutored for Physiology for Nursing. She really knows how to clarify things by using realistic examples. Makes it as easy as possible for you to understand the material.
Mercedes was a great tutor. She knows the materials well and is doing an excellent job prepare for my exam. She is very patient with me and taking her time to explain until I understand. I highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
