I've always had great ability both as a learner, and as a communicator, which led to me often tutoring friends and classmates. I like the process of discovering how to present information in a way that makes sense to each person individually, which to me is the most important part of teaching.
I moved to Miami about three years ago, and enrolled at Miami Dade College. In that time, I earned my AA from Miami Dade in Business Administration with a 4.0 GPA, and my BBA in Finance from Florida International with a 3.5 GPA. I managed to achieve this while maintaining full-time employment and tutoring part time.
I've always enjoyed, and been told that I have a natural talent for teaching. At the encouragement of friends and family, I began tutoring about two years ago. Since then, I've had the pleasure of tutoring students in a range of math courses including Algebra 1 and 2, Precalculus, and Geometry, as well as Economics, English, and Science.
I have experience coaching youth basketball and baseball, and feel comfortable working with all types of students. I'm motivated, hard-working, easy to get along with, and thoroughly looking forward to the opportunity to teach. This was the third lesson with Ben. He was great. He had great command of the materials and was able to explain things in a clear and concise manner. He has been very helpful.
In the short time since Ben began turoting my son (Algebra II), the results have been nothing short of amazing. My son was seriously struggling with Algebra II, getting Ds and Fs on quizzes and tests. Now he is scoring As!!!
Ben has been able to accomplish what my son's teacher (in a Private School) was not able to accomplish. As a result, besides the obvious improvement in grades, his level of confidence has gone up significantly. This has had a positive impact in other courses, as well.
In terms of dealing with Ben, our experience has been a pleasure. He is always within reach, and willing to accommodate any scheduling changes. He is very responsible.
My suggestion to anyone considering tutoring services is to give Ben a try. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Ben is well spoken, courteous, very knowledgeable and explains well. My son looks forward to having tutors come over to do his math homework. Ben has made math homework fun! Highly recommend! thank you.
Excellent Teacher, learned so much and everything was clearly explained! He takes the time and effort to go through every step, worth every penny.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I first started playing organized basketball the age of 8, and continued playing all through high school. I played on a couple travelling teams from 5th-8th grade, and was the starting point guard and co-captain of my high school team (Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland). I attended Bullis Basketball camp for 6 consecutive summers between the ages of 9 and 14, and then worked as a counselor there for 3 summers. Between my experiences on various teams, at Bullis camp, and the summer I attended 5-star Basketball Camp (at Robert Morris University), I feel that I have a far better than average grasp not only on the fundamentals of the game, but in overall team strategy. Though it's been some time since I played in an organized league, I continue to play basketball regularly, and consider it one of my biggest passions.
