Language is much more than grammar rules, it is a way of speaking, interacting, and overall a link to a culture different than your own. I have traveled, lived, and studied in international destinations and cherish language learning.
Interestingly, Spanish is unique in different regions of the world (i.e. Caribbean, South and Central America, Africa), which requires alternate perspectives when learning Spanish. These differences are apparent from my recent Masters program through New York University in Spanish Linguistics.
English, on the other hand, is my native language and am currently teaching international students the root to a language that dominates the global sphere. I am utilizing the direct method (natural method) where the focus is on developing speaking and listening skills before tackling reading and writing.
I'm here to build your confidence and desire to learn either language. Language is much more than grammar rules, it is a way of speaking, interacting, and overall a link to a culture different than your own. I have traveled, lived, and studied in international destinations and cherish language
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Experience Teaching English as a Second Language:
English skills are meant to be taught from a real-world perspective. By focusing on conversation and job- and/or home-related communication skills, students are able to function in English and make use of their learning.
Naturally, students develop language skills through speaking and listening. Thus, I teach through Presenting new concepts to students, allowing them to Practice, and later elicit the material through Producing the new vocabulary and sentences.
I engage students based on their learning styles: Visual, Kinesthetics, or Auditory. I utilize diverse methods to reinforce language learning.
-Spanish grammar (i.e. past, present, future tense; vocabulary)
-Phonology and Phonetics(linguistic analysis of sounds, and pronunciation)
-Syntax (the structure of sentences, the order of words)
-Semantics (the meaning of words and their relation with each other)
Pragmatics (the use of the language, the intended meaning dependent on the user)
These elements are important in the learning of a language and to comprehend successfully a student must acquire these linguistic tools (see above).
Second Language Acquisition
Learning a Foreign Language
These processes requires knowledge of how one's first language affects the learning and acquisition of a second language. Difficulties will be addressed and will learn strategies to overcome and improve.
