I believe that my experience as an artist and educator will contribute to strengthening of your skill and knowledge about art. I have practiced art for seventeen years in different cultural environments. My work spans a broad spectrum of interests and competence as a result of my training in both Europe and United States. I have taught art in diverse educational art institutions ranging from practice to theory based programs. This breadth of experience enables me to teach art from both traditional and contemporary perspectives simultaneously challenging and inspiring technical and conceptual aspects of work.
My art education includes a variety of approaches and media. My training in the fine arts ranges from the very conventional art techniques to the most contemporary art media. During a four year art program at the High School for Industrial Design in Belgrade I studied classical drawing and painting based on still-life, casts, and the nude figure as well as basic photography, all forms of textile design, and art history. During a five year intense undergraduate academic program at The Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, I studied drawing and painting based on the nude figure (five years), extensive anatomy (two years), printmaking (three years), mosaic, fresco and secco techniques, sculpture, and art history (five years). In the course of my further education at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale I have acquired knowledge in contemporary art disciplines, philosophy, psychology and science. I became familiar with new creative medias such as computer graphics and digital video and sound, which has inspired some of my graduate work.
I grew up in Europe and moved to the United States ten years ago. My work has been too influenced by diverse ways of thinking as a result of the amount of traveling I have done and the exposure to different cultures that I have received. In 2000, I spent months in Italy as artist in residence at International School of Art in Umbria. Later, I became involved in curating exhibitions and organizing programs for the same institution. I have spent six months in Paris experiencing French cultural heritage and professionally working in Montmartre. I have also spent one month in Istanbul as part of an undergraduate program that involved research in art history.
Although my thoughts have been manifested in variety of forms, primary form of my expression is painting and drawing.
I am an active artist committed to continuing research. I am also a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher who recognizes teaching as an extension of my studio practice and therefore believes that challenging the student and being challenged by the student is beneficial to both parties. During my career as an educator I taught all levels of drawing and painting, 2D design and 3D design as a full time faculty at the following art institutions: Southern University at Carbondale, Alfred University, Cleveland Institute of Art – I am currently teaching courses as a part-time faculty at the University of Miami. I have been teaching studio art courses with theorists in a team-taught environments. I too developed an interdisciplinary curriculum in Color studies as well as many other advanced level courses in Painting, Drawing and Installation. I have initiated collaborations among students and institutions, organized exhibitions and coordinated visiting artist programs. I am an active participant in all spheres of arts advancing my understanding of the principles of visual art and informing my ever evolving decisions about how those principles may be taught in an effective way.
Should you show interest in my teaching profile I would be happy to send you additional materials to better describe my credentials and teaching methods.
I hope to further expand upon my qualifications and interest in an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration. I believe that my experience as an artist and educator will contribute to strengthening of your skill and knowledge about art. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
