About Joseph

Bio

For many years I have taught ESOL, Business English, and Career Development in New York and Miami...and I love it. Teaching is in my blood! In my class, you are a participant, not a spectator. A good teacher must be effective and patient as well as build confidence in the student. Confidence is extremely important whether it is speaking English as a second language, doing a presentation in front of a group of people, or sitting in a job interview. My main interest is Results! Your success...

Career Development

I hold a State of Florida Educator's Certificate. I have taught Career Development (Professional Development) for about ten years at New Professions Technical Institute. At NPTI, this course is required for all careers (Medical Administration, Med Assistant, Business Computers, and Import/Export). The class size ranges from about 12 to 25 students depending on enrollment for the quarter. It is 3-hr session per week for 10 weeks. It focuses on job interview preparation, resume, and cover letter. Role-playing is an essential part of the course. Just as important is motivating the students and building their confidence and character. In addition, I have tutored professionals such as a VP for the Latin American Division of Barklay's Bank. He needed to be more confident when doing presentations for his British superiors. I also tutored a Venezuelan medical doctor who was applying for internship at various American hospitals. She needed to learn how to be interviewed in the USA (interview approaches may differ in other countries).

Prior to moving to Miami, I taught ESL/ESOL in New York City schools as a paraprofessional. Part of the program involved preparing immigrant students for the GED. These students came from all over the world, and they needed to take the test in English. In Miami, in addition to teaching and tutoring ESL/ESOL, I have also tutored students for the TOEFL. In my classes I include writing, reading, and conversation. For the writing, I have them write paragraphs and give them dictation both of which are very practical and beneficial to them. I taught for CCLS (Coral Way at 31st Ave. Miami, FL) and tutored for tutoring services companies. I might add that my students have been very pleased with my performance. In all the different subjects I do, I have received great evaluations from them. I am humbly honored.

Great tutor

He gave me the tips to find the job I want and I'm very thankful to him for trying to understand every concept in my resume in order to provide me with the proper advice or recommendations.
