Miami Dade College (Supervision and Management)
Hello, learners! I am certified in business education, and I teach ESOL. I am a trained substitute teacher and volunteer tutor. In the past, I worked as an assistant teacher and in other positions at La Prima Casa Montessori School for four years. I have been tutoring/teaching since 2005 and continue to develop myself to be the best that I can.
I passed the general knowledge tests for the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations or FTCE because I had intended on completing a bachelor's degree in Exceptional Student Education (ESE). Instead, I got some training in ESE and finished with honors from Miami Dade College in 2014 with a BAS in Supervision and Management. Further, I have the standard hours of childcare training through Florida Department of Children and Families. I also have other training and numerous certificates, which include magna cum laude and academic distinction.
My major areas of tutoring include English, reading, writing, and proofreading. I also tutor general sewing that consists of hand stitches, embroidery and simple garment/linen manufacturing. While I am not a qualified Montessori teacher, I have a great appreciation for the philosophy; thus, I prefer to interact with students using its style. However, I strive to reach learners by employing methods and techniques that work for them and within their time frame.
As far as other policies go, I will never charge you if we exceed the agreed upon tutoring time. In addition, cancellations that occur after 24 hours and no shows will be charged $10. I understand “life happens,” so I encourage you to communicate your concerns directly with me.
Feel free to inquire about other lessons because once I prove my knowledge with WyzAnt, I might be the right fit for you. Also, please remember that we can exchange personal information when your payment details are on file and that WyzAnt will bill you AFTER the first lesson has been conducted. Thank you and I am looking forward to working with you. Hello, learners! I am certified in business education, and I teach ESOL. I am a trained substitute teacher and volunteer tutor. Mariana, I appreciate your sincerity. Your son has great potential. I am working with him to bring out what is already there. Sometimes that is all students need....
We discussed my goals for the tutoring and she provided good conversation practice. She also provided some basic concepts that I need to review before my next class.
Thank you for your kind thoughts. You are willing and able to practice your conversational English skills, and it brings me joy knowing that I can assist you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Math is an essential part of learning and connected to life on so many levels. Because I passed the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations general knowledge math sub-test, I tutor elementary math. I maintain and improve my knowledge through online platforms and by working with students from year-to-year.
Throughout my early and late education, English language has always been my strength. In college, I typically had outstanding grades. Today, I continue to stay on the cutting edge by taking various competency exams because I know that being a native speaker is not enough to prove my knowledge. Besides, students value "the tricks" I use to help them learn.
After attending college for six years, completing numerous papers, and studying a foreign language, I realized that my grammar skills have been sufficiently polished to help learners rise to a higher level.
In 2007, I completed a national literacy training program in The Bahamas. Since then, I have been enthusiastic about helping people learn how to read. My technique in helping students learn is discovering what he/she likes and build off of it. For this reason, I have also successfully assisted learners who have been labeled. Together, we can accomplish everything!
I have been sewing since I was eight years old. Of course, I started by using my dolls as models. Eventually, I gained sufficient confidence to make my first outfit (a dress) when I was twelve. At that time, I was considering pursuing a career in fashion design, but as I grew, my heart was set on teaching elementary sewing. I tried to secure a career in the local primary school system in my town, but they were not offering sewing at that level.
I developed my skills by attending dressmaking classes. Even further, I have a certificate in tailoring from Bahamas Technical & Vocational Institute (BTVI). Because I never fully ventured out in this field, I consider it a hobby; nevertheless, I possess basic employable skills. I have a lot of patience and I love to instruct, so I know that I will be able to teach basic sewing and offer tips and techniques that will encourage you to take your skills and abilities to another level.
When I first added writing as a subject, I was more focused on handwriting and helping students build sentences and/or write answers based upon content. Because I used to review and critique essays for (potential) teachers and I enjoy writing, my focus has shifted to essay writing.
