About Kiara

Hello!
I am Kiara. I hold a B.S. degree in Biology and a Master of Public Health degree from FIU. I have over seven years of experience as a private tutor in and (mostly) outside of Wyzant. I have worked as an English academic interventionist at a local (Allapattah) high school and also managed their after-school tutoring program, where I mainly tutored math.

The topics that I tutor the most are math, reading/comprehension and writing. I also have tutored science (general, biology and chemistry), Spanish (I am a native speaker), phonics, and writing skills.

I am very patient and hard-working, always get along with students and try to encourage them to use all of their potential. My focus is in the process and the outcome, which any of my past students would remark.
I have tutored students with learning disability, ADD and ADHD; patience and personalized teaching are key.

I also do essay/research paper and personal statement critique and editing, paying special attention to elements that make the paper unique and tailoring it to its audience. I am an outstanding writer, in great part due to my critical thinking skills. I have helped students in achieving higher levels of writing in various topics (e.g. research papers in biological sciences, sociology, anthropology, literature, and history; also opinion/argument-based essays, personal statements and personal skills/qualities essays).

Available in SW Miami, Doral and surrounding areas.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

For years, I have helped students learn algebra skills they remember and succeed with. Different methods work for different learning types and I teach math skills using daily life common sense.

College Counseling

I have attended three colleges: a community college, a state university and a private university. I have been in college for 3 years and have learned a lot from many experiences. I often advise my high school students about the preparations they need to take care of before they apply, the process of choosing colleges and applying, and resources for financial aid and scholarships.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored elementary school children in the last two and a half years. The lessons have always gone smoothly and are quite effective. I have tutored English, Spanish, reading and writing, general mathematics and pre-algebra. I have also helped in preparation for standardized tests, like the FCAT.
I usually provide some materials, though it is more helpful if we can follow along a textbook or practice book provided by the county or from a bookstore.

Linear Algebra

The skills for linear algebra were covered in my high school and college algebra courses. I continued to used them in calculus. I am quite efficient at it. I have tutored the subject to a few students. The topics generally include factoring, identification of linear graphs by observing their equations, and graphing.

Encouraging tutor.

She made my son feel confident. That is my number one priority. They worked on reading comprehension and vocabulary. He improved wonderfully.
