Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I am a college senior at the University of Florida studying business. I also run two online businesses on my own, and I think I would be a good resource to help people trying to improve their own business, be it through studying or in practical application

English

I am an author of three books and I have been published in numerous publications.

ESL/ESOL

I am a native English speaker and I am completely fluent in English. I've written two books in English, and I've also had some articles published. I've taken advance college-level classes in English and I've also taught English to students. I also speak Spanish and Italian and I can use methods with which I learned these languages to help the students learn faster.

Reading

I taught two elementary school students last year: one second grader, who went from failing to passing with an 87% on his benchmark test, and another who went from failing to getting a 4 on the FCAT.

Study Skills

I am a senior at the University of Florida and I have a 3.9 GPA. As a competitive swimmer throughout high school and a small business owner throughout college, I have very good time management skills and I can instruct students on how to improve their reading and comprehension abilities, as well as their overall focus. I have experience tutoring students with ADD and ADHD and I have helped them learn how to focus and improve their grades. I also can teach students on how to study better through comprehensive reasoning of the chapters, emphasis on main ideas as well as by teaching them to summarize the main ideas in their own words. Similarly, through encouraging students to explain the concepts as if they were teaching the class themselves, I can help students study more effectively and faster, as well as improve their general understanding of the subject matter.

Swimming

I have experience instructing swim lessons to children from ages 3-15, all with very different levels of skill. I use a very different approach to swimming lessons, and vary my lessons depending on the child's willingness, and the parent's expectation. I will instruct in all basic skills such as blowing bubbles, swimming underwater, kicking and floating (using different types of equipment to assist the child), but can advance them through the four major strokes and even diving, flip-turning and breathing, etc. My intention is to make the child enjoy what he/she is doing.

Credentials
I was a 6 year swimming varsity team member. I was a two time 2A State Swimming Champion Team Member (2006, 2007), and member of the 2006 State Champion 200 Medley Relay. I've been named part of the All Dade First Team for Swimming 3 years in a row (2005, 2006, 2007).
I've been a competitive swimmer for 12 years. I've been a Junior Olympic Champion, District Champion and Regional Champion many times. I've also competed and won a Junior Olympic Open Water 5km race. I've competed in national and international swim meets and placed well throughout.

Writing

I am an author of three books and have been featured in numerous national publications, including the Miami Herald, Washington Post and Vanity Fair Magazine.
